So my boss is a psycho........

    Any advice?
So I’ve worked in this place for over two decades, the company was sold a few months back and my new boss is bat**** crazy.

He says things, then says that he never said it. He tried to change all our terms and conditions including pay related terms- I refused but some younger staff went along with it. He makes decisions that are at best a bit odd, at worst making our work place dangerous for us and customers. He’s constantly watching us on cctv and has installed voice recording equipment. He remotely monitors all phone calls and computer access (this one is probably not that unusual but it is to us).

Anyway, at the start of May he allocated my main job to others, without any communication with me. He then changed all passwords etc so I couldn’t even access the system to do this job. This has caused huge stress to me and to other staff that now have to do that job with little experience.
Roll on to last Friday, this job wasn’t finished by a staff member as they didn’t get time. The staff member thought that they informed another staff member of this but staff member 2 is saying they didn’t. Obviously a communication error. Anyway my boss then rings me at home on Friday evening to shout at me on the phone about this job not being completed and that I should have made sure that it was completed even though he blocked me from this job two months ago!

Sorry for the really long post, my actual question is what should I do tomorrow when he starts giving out again? Should I get up and leave or would that be worse for me? I don’t want to be pushed into a situation where I end up shouting and then looking like the psycho bitch!!!

Probably the wrong forum for this.

Serious answer, don't accept this behaviour from anyone in the workplace, ask to meet your boss with a witness and bring up your issues with everything written down.

AH answer, blast yer boss with piss Monday morning.

Creepy, inexperienced and deranged probably describes him best.

He does sound a bit mad, life is too short to be working in those environments. Maybe see what else is out there.

I'd email and ask how exactly you were supposed to get it finished when your access is blocked.

I'd also state that you want a response via email or text and won't be answering the phone.

2 short sentences that suggest you want all information/communication in writing.

Sorry I didn’t know where to post it!

We did already have a meeting with a HR person and I bought a colleague. I have the minutes of that meeting where the biggest issue was the removal of this specific job. Since the meeting we are talking (yes, it had got to that stage) but he still didn’t reinstate my previous duties or give me the passwords to access the system.

I currently have 26 a4 pages of notes detailing incidents. Is it time to just leave?

I would be telling him that I won’t be answering his calls outside of work hours as they are causing stress at home and if he needs to talk you’ll expect to be paid for it.
Life is too short for his BS. Just laugh it off tomorrow when he gives out and know you can leave but he’s stuck with himself.
Maybe ask that these changes to your job description should be emailed to you ASAP

I am currently on the look out and have had 3 interviews in the last week with another tomorrow. The thing is that I haven’t done an interview since I started this job so it’s difficult to get back into it!

Sounds like he has breached several aspects of data protection law with his surveillance. Post in the Work Problems forum if you want more focused advice.

I told him on the phone on Friday but it was still my fault apparently.

Previously stock was supposed to be picked up but he had the keys for the stockroom with him at home. When he realised the stock wasn’t picked up he gave out for a week even though I reminded him that we couldn’t get in as he had the key. He actually denied having the key (he definitely did as it’s on a set that he took home) and then said we should have figured out another way to access the stockroom??? He is not a reasonable person.

Think you need to see your union, if you have one. I think he might want rid of you, especially if he changed the terms and conditions of some staff and you did not change yours. Me personally I would've hung up when he rang me at home. Just write everything down for future reference in regard to the way he treats you.
Hopefully things work out for you.

Install a call recording app on your phone and you should also be recording any face to face interaction with him from now on.

You need to be putting in complaints about this behaviour through the company's procedures and any outside grievance systems available, make sure you go by the book and keep precise records

Finding alternative employment and leaving is all very well but you are being forced out by this individual's behaviour and irrespective of you finding another job you could have case for constructive dismissal against the company.

Can you record someone without their permission? Just wondering as I wouldn’t want the OP to get into trouble

You should probably consider leaving and if you don't get a new job then sue for constructive dismissal

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
