Carzone valuations

Apologies if this has been asked before, but I can't find anything recent on it. Anybody got any idea how accurate the "Value my car" function on Carzone might be?

Currently thinking of my changing my car and it's putting the value of my current one at €7,800. For what it's worth, there are only two similar models in terms of year, engine size, etc., listed on Carzone right now. Both are dealer sales. One with slightly more mileage than mine is listed at €10,000 and one with slightly less mileage is listed at €11,000. So would €7,800 be an accurate estimate of what a dealer might offer me as trade-in value?

Focus on one figure only - the cost to change price. This is how much the dealer wants with your car for their car. All other figures are just numbers that can be swapped around to appear attractive.

That valuation tool is way off. Put my car in, it's about 3k off.
Just searched for similar cars, it's actually over 5k off :D

Hi again Bazz. Reckon you know from that other thread the car I'm thinking of trying to trade against. ;)

Yeah, obviously the "price to change" is the only really important one at the end of the day. It's just that if I had some sort of semi-accurate idea for what I might be offered for my own, I'd have an idea of what the price to change might be.

Anyway, shouldn't be long finding out one way or the other. I expect to be talking to somebody at the dealership tomorrow, or Tuesday at the latest.

But giving you a high trade in value can be distorted if the car they are selling is overpriced too. They just move figures around.

Also the 316d is a bit under powered imo, best aim for a 320d, they don't cost much more over a 316d at that age.

Guess that's true too. Thanks. Good to get advice from somebody like you who obviously has far more experience of knowledge of these things than somebody like me.

Isn't Boards.ie great all the same!

Just tried 2 or 3 cars and it was offensively off, well below trade in price even.

It probably queries off previous auction prices so probably not reflective of what you'll get offered on the forecourt even.

But as was said, cost to change is the key

For what it's worth, have now been to a couple of dealers myself. Their opening offers for the car that Carzone valued at €7,800 are between €5,000 and €6,000. So looks like my experience there is the opposite of yours....
