The Simpsons is finally, officially, seeking to end the controversy over Apu
"Moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters," the producers said Friday in a statement.
the latest announcement would seemingly affect other Simpsons characters, including the Azaria-voiced Carl Carlson, policeman Lou, and Dr. Nick Riviera, as well as the Harry Shearer-voiced Dr. Hibbert.
Mike Henry announced that he will no longer voice Family Guy's Cleveland, who is African-American, after a two-decade run.

As Roger Meyers, Jr once said - the screwballs have spoken

Thankfully I have almost all the box sets of The Simpson’s and Family Guy (seasons 1-12 of the former and S1-3 of the latter the most treasured) in the coming weeks Disney+ will be forced into heavily editing or removing certain episodes.

Bad enough that Channel 4 and to a lesser extent Sky One are cutting scenes and jokes viewed as offensive from S1-12. Former show runners Bill Oakley and Josh Weinstein recently confirmed my suspicions that these episodes were been sped up to fit in more adverts. Rté don’t show it at all anymore I heard.

The future of television is something like this

“Coming up next, Sabrina the transgender biracial non binary witch”

It's all fooked up, I understand and support the movement but it is going severely OTT.

IT JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW THE BIASED MEDIA HAS BRAINWASHED PEOPLE INTO BELIEVING THE CORPORATIONS AND THEIR "CANCEL CULTURE".

I think only cartoon characters should be allowed to voice cartoon characters.

Storm in a teacup. If they could somehow get the quality back up to a mid 90s level I wouldn't care if Apu is voiced by a white person, an Indian person or a one legged Egyptian lesbian.

The two people who still watch new episodes of the Simpsons are said to be outraged.

I see everyone as being equal so I would not deny someone white from voicing a black character in the same way I would not stop a black person from voicing a white person, It is past stupid at this stage, It is called voice 'acting', acting is pretending to be someone you are not, that is the point. There is a really stupid idea that only a 'insert race' can play a character of that race, only a gay character can play a gay character, only a disabled person can play a disabled person, well with that logic only a murderer can play a murderer and with that I hope everyone sees how illogical this all is.

Btw the Simpsons should have ended as a show years ago.

I think that when everyone goes over the top being politically correct it will have the effect of reducing the support avaliable for movements that actually matter. Black lives matter is really important but it is being diluted by nonsense like this.

Fair enough we should stop making new content that has rasist jokes, but to edit old content and essentially ban us from seeing it is wrong imo. I personally believe that TV, Movies, Comedians etc should not be dictated by what some feel is socially acceptable. Are people going to stop making fun of drunk Irish, or crooked toothed English, or dumb blond Americans too? I hope not.

We don't like murder, rape, war, bullying, smoking, speeding cars, fraud, discrimination against disabled people etc but we don't remove all of that from our TV screens. Why is Racism different?

I'm starting to get weary of all this 'it's OTT' or 'It's going too far'. The reality is that for too long people of BAME backgrounds struggled to get opportunities which white people got. Does this mean that all white people had it easy? No. Does it mean that no BAME people got opportunities? No.
But there has been plenty time for things to have found a more natural state of equilibrium from the previous norm of white male dominance and yet it hasn't happened so now the pendulum is likely to swing to more concerted efforts and the reason that this is happening is not because everyone is now 'woke' or whatever but it is obvious it needs a dedicated effort to shift the normal.
If you think this is wrong, then appreciate what it has looked like to so many, for so long and the quicker people accept that this is becoming more visible partly because many are forcing it to be this way through their resistance to change then the quicker we will get to a place where there isn't a need to broadcast dedicated efforts.

I am sick of people white knighting for minority groups, they dont need it, stop looking down on minorities, they are normal people who can take a joke. Dont you see you are being racist by thinking they are different to you?
Also guess what.......black people are not oppressed in the Western world, they have the same rights and protections under the law as everyone else.

"Moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters," the producers said Friday in a statement.

Why can't they just say that characters will be voiced by people of the same ethnicity. If this is about equality, then you don't need to single out a race in your efforts.

If the title just used the first 4 words I would find it more interesting.

Dr. Nick is white though, right? Isn’t he based on one of the original animators who’s from Hungary originally?

The black cop Lou’s voice is based on Sylvester Stallone. How are they gonna get around that one?

News just in, voice actor of Samurai Jack isn't Japanese.

I think this will back fire in some ways. One way i can think of is that it will make more sense to use more white/yellow characters in the simpsons since they already have white actors who can play them. Pay them under their existing contracts. I wonder will it lead to less representation overall in the characters.

I don't really mind about this, once there's a little consistency. E.g. James Bond is a middle-aged British white guy, so I'd expect that to remain the case.

BAME is a British thing. Not relevant in the case of the Simpsons.

Yet Nancy Cartwright can continue to voice Bart along with most of the other cis male juveniles, OMG did I just assume Barts gender, I better sign up for re-education

Best to self-flagellate also, for using the word ‘cis’.

Such a white supremacist thing to say.

Black Lives DO matter like white peoples too, but they’re not treated the same. That’s the issue

Quite a sensationalist jump you made there.

It’s not like they’re in a profession where they’re paid to pretend to be other people now, are they?

And if a black voice actor lost his role because of his skin colour of his character, would that be OK too?
