Is there much of a difference in price between getting a combi boiler compared to getting a heat pump?
    What are the advantages/disadvantages?
I have a 14 year year old boiler that i am looking to upgrade

Well, firstly is your house suitable for a heat pump at all? What's the house energy rating?

no expert, but think you should have a b Rated house at least, as you shoud have air tightness ?

For a heat pump to work in a house, the house needs to be wrapped in insulation and air tightness membrane installed and very good energy rated windows and doors. If your house is E2 at the moment id say you would need to get these works done first and at a cost of 40-70k depending on the size of the house.
Combi boilers are great and that is sometimes the best way to go depending on your hot water needs.

as if stands, your home with a heat pump would be like the reverse of keeping a fridge cold with the door open

My DCC house built in the 1950s I can tell you now will never probably be able to have a heat pump installed.
