Try and get something with a subwoofer, anything with a factory sub should have decent speakers too.

Volvos tends to come with very powerful speakers IME with rentals.

If you get a highest specification car then it usually has great speakers.

Most of the "balck edition" Audis have bose speakers as part of the package. (It's a good indicator of whether or not a car is a genuine black edition as the other features are relatively cheap to upgrade as a way of pretending it's a black edition).

    Something like this, maybe?

I think buying a car based on the sound system is a fool's errand. You'd be better off buying what you want and upgrading the sounds, no?

You are probably right but I'd rather not have to deal with the hassle of getting them upgraded myself if possible to be honest. I should have mentioned I would need a petrol as I don't do enough miles to warrant a diesel.

Was thinking this mazda 6 is good value? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202003178515670?radius=1500&aggregatedTrim=Sport%20Nav&postcode=l200ah&model=MAZDA6&onesearchad=New&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=Used&fuel-type=Petrol&year-from=2015&advertising-location=at_cars&make=MAZDA&sort=relevance&page=1

Much bigger car than the focus may take a bit of getting used to though!

Imo very few of the regular car brands invest all that much in upgrade premium sounds system. If you look at most of these cars out there how many would have the premium sound system ticked on the options list? Demand is very low especially in Ireland, most people just do with the stock sound system and most upgrade options are not hugely better. You really have to go to the premium brands where the difference between the stock and premium sound systems can be sizable but there is a also a sizable price for the upgraded system on these cars. For example, the stock VW sound system is very good these days but the optional Dynaudio system is not really a big improvement. On the other hand the BMW upgrade Harman Kardon or Bang and Olufsen systems are vastly better than the stock sound system but cost a small fortune to tick on the options list.

My friend has a Mk7 golf and I find the sound system in that to be great. I wonder if it extends across the whole VAG range including Ibizas, Leons etc. I suppose the easiest thing to do would be to test drive a few and see how they sound.

Yeah I can see the demand is low considering most car reviews don't even mention what the stock sound system is like. I suppose it is a niche feature, I currently use a little Bluetooth speaker thrown on the dash and was hoping to go from one extreme to another but may have to settle for a decent stock system!

I doubt you will get the same quality of sound system in an Ibiza as say a Golf, the Ibiza is from the class below and as such is built to a lower price point. You might have to look at some aftermarket upgrades.

My a6 is standard s line and has those bose speakers... As does my neighbours A6 SE... I bought it used but think they are standard.
Good speakers though in fairness, sounds great using Spotify in the car
