Feeling Frustrated

Gave up alcohol about 6 weeks ago, as I realised It was becoming a bit of a lockdown habit, and wanted to knock it on the head. I thought ditching the alcohol, and the tayto's that went into it would have helped me lose weight (I need to lose 3 stone), but after 2 weeks I lost nothing. So I watched what I ate, and cut down on carbs. I'm also moving more, fast walk everyday and some cycling, I've went from approx 7K steps to 10-14k in steps. I lost 5 pounds the first 2 weeks after cutting back on carbs, but little since.

I'm getting frustrated, and ready to give up, and am not sure what else to do. I think I'm eating healthy enough - breakfast poached egg and slice wholewheat bread, lunch quorn mince chilli, (made with kidneys and tomatoes), with broccoli rice, then dinner tuna steak, broccoli and sweet potato, then a couple of mandarins as snacks.

    Any advice, very welcome.

Have you been tracking your calories? Might be worth doing that for a couple of weeks.

I can't remember what I was listening to the other day but people are notoriously bad for under-reporting food intake. Even people who work in the area of nutrition, dietitians etc.

Just record it completely honestly in MFP and you'll get an understanding of what you're taking on board and will highlight where changes can be made.

Keep at it and you'll get there

I think its very difficult to shed weight without doing a fair bit of calorie burning exercise most of us under count the calories we take in so you really have to pay heed to everything you eat .Walking as has been said burns very few calories unless you were going up and down pretty steep hills or something.Cycling is better burns about 600 plus per hour jogging is good i think but you need to start slow as injuries are common enough if you rush things .But you have started out in a lifestyle change so it may take time but you have to stick with it and in the end you will make your goal best of luck you will do it .

I know fitbits aren't accurate but I always get a higher calorie return walking than cycling

Walking 14k steps may sound impressive but the actual calorie burn there could be very low depending on speed and incline etc, I and walking and jogging for 3 hours a day using steep mountain terrain it’s a tough workout but calorie burn on my garmin is 900 roughly And if I walk and a slower pace around the river with my family it would be 10k steps but 80-120 calories burned

Thats actually quite eye opening. Re difference in walking casually and pushing yourself. Quick question , when you do a good bike run or walk job mountainous terrain, do you end up needing to eat much larger meals to compensate? Last time i did a 4 hour hike I ended up eating double what I nomally would have as I was much hungrier or do you have too say no , no extra food today, Standard 2000 calories thats it.

We could fill pages debating walking v cycling etc lots of people have different experiences all relevant but as omega gene has said good quality food and watching portion sizes is the most important thing. For me losing a couple of stone was when I really tidied up my diet I took up cycling which got me a lot fitter but the weeks when my diet was good overall I got the best results.
