Mod: The whataboutery is strong in this thread. Apparently my last two mod warnings weren't clear enough, so considering a man has died in what seems to be very tragic circumstances for all involved, the next person who decides to make it a race or traveller issue when there is NO evidence to even remotely support that, or engages in some stupid whataboutery along the lines of "what if the Garda shot first/what if the guard/attacker was black" is going to find themselves thread banned and/or forum banned.

Mod - (15/03/2023) Steven Silver found guilty of capital murder - thread reopened

Hopefully that’s not accurate and he pulls through.

    Awful news.

    Mod:

I have deleted a number of posts that are speculating on the current status of the Garda in question. Can I please ask everybody to not speculate further on this until confirmed reports come in, one way to the other? Thank you.

RIP and sympathies to his family and friends. I can still remember the killing of Garda‘s Morley and Byrne a few miles away in Loughglynn in 1981.

I guess we’ve all had a grumble at the Gaedai but it puts it into perspective what they do when this happens.

This is devastating news. He was an absolute gent. Thinking of him, his family and his colleagues at this extremely difficult time.

RIP lad, you will be missed.

It's awful that one guard lost his life, I really hope that other guardaí don't lose their careers, because of this individual.

We all know he's going to suffer and rightly so. It helps to protect other Gardai because the vast majority of scumbags know they're going to suffer if they harm a Garda. So yes it does help.

Very possible the stairs in the Castlrea station are steep and accidents do happen. The lack of respect for AGS in this country from a huge number is really sad to see. Its not just criminal elements that have issue with them. If alot of the scumbag and scrote elements could be subjected to a firm kicking when required the country would be an awful lot better imo. Instead, you have every scobe with a smartphone trying to provoke a reaction as they know they are virtually untouchable.

Shocking. No need for that here in Ireland. I wonder who the hell it was and how it happened?

No it doesn't. I hope he gets charged with the full extent of the law, and gets life in prison.

A beating behind closed doors does nothing to "scare" other criminals. A justice system that is extremely tough on this sort of crime might though.

Let the vermin rot in his prison for the rest of their life ! The one crime here that might get more than a suspended sentence. The judiciary and politicians here have blood on their hands, they are entirely responsible for the lack of law and order!

    Very sad news RIP.

There was a report last week where two detectives were assaulted by a gang of youths and one of them tried to take one of the detectives gun while attacking him.

Quiet scary now that this seems to have happened in this case and lead to the murder of a Garda.

If these animals think it’s ok to try and take a Garda’s gun they need to be locked up for life 23 hours a day until the day they die.

Murder of a guard should mean life in jail, you're never getting out.

May this poor man RIP, so sad for his family, to go to work and not come home.

Is this comment related to BLM?

If so, there is a world of difference between law enforcement consistently and deliberately targeting one ethnicity for decades and some scumbags over here getting a well deserved few slaps.

If its not related to BLM then I havnt a clue what you mean.

Reading the news there. Apparently he was on his own on a routine patrol and stopped and approached someone on the street. The incident got physical for whatever reason and the Guards weapon allegedly got into the hands of the shooter and a number of shots were fired. Whatever the circumstances, its horrible news.

Reports say a man in his 40’s is in custody, not a youth

Any one who kills a Garda should be never let out again.
It's shocking, in the line of duty and this happens.
My Dad worked in the department of justice and as a kid I remember a lug trying to aggitate dad one evening in Limerick, let's just say we were lucky..
I'll never forget it, but dad's a gentleman but a hard man behind his calm exterior...

Very sad and I hope it's a wake up call, no Gaurd should patrol on their own as it's honestly too much of a risk.

Condolences to the family and friends.

I think anyone who kills anyone should be locked up for life.

I feel sorry for the family. If the law keeps allowing people attack who they want and get away with it, certain individuals are just going to escalate it.

AGS are being treated like sh1t on a shoe because no matter what they do to stop, arrest and prosecute crime, the next level of the system fails us all.

Leave it out. An entire country is enveloped in protests about police brutality and people like you don't get the message. Lets turn the Gardai into a militia clobbering scallys off the back of a tragedy; fantastic idea.

Just leave it out and show some respect to the deceased.
