Firebird Boiler firing for 10 mins only

hi,

looking for a bit of help while I wait for a plumber to ring me back......(brrrr).

Have a firebird popular 90 (Riella?) and it was left idle for 4 years.

It's works for 10 mins and then nothing.

Stuff I've done & observed is

Filled the tank as it was fairly empty;

1) Bled the boiler (was cloudy as first but now clear)
2) Bled the air release nut on the boiler too
3) Bled the plump
4) bled all the rad, none had any air which was surprising

Power etc look fine.

Grumdfos pump itself has a light on (for power level II, but can't say I've heard it making any noise at any stage)

Boiler stat looks to be working OK as when it runs I can turn the stat down & it goes off, then back on if I turn it back up (only within the 10 min window).

So she fires up great & hot etc but obviously no heat in the rad or any pipes in the house.

Appreciate any tips while I'm waiting as it's now a bit of a mission!

Hopefully I can get a pro in during the week but for now I'm just a bit annoyed with it, especially if it's something basic, any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for any help guys.

Jet nozzle, photocell replacement, check filter and double check no air.

Did you clean out the soot and rust inside too?

Didn't clean up, unsure what that involves but I will look it up!

No clue at all what the photocell might look like even though the manual shows it as a part alright, literally no clue what it is!

Will look into the filter too, didnt do any of that, tks!

found this good vid on youtube how to clean it, that looks easy but I will have to get a nozzle, probably a plumber will get back to me before I get one, hopefully, left 2 messages so don't wanna have to ring em all so that gives me a fall back, thanks!

Does it trip or just cut out after 10 mins? and if it trips do you have to press the reset button on the burner?.

thanks yes meant to say just cuts out - the reset never helps (i think it has a light on it that doens't light up so not 'locked out' I suppose.

The next time it cuts out just turn up the boiler stat immediately and see if it re starts straight away, as stated by Wearb it could be the circ pump.

Appreciate it, I went out to do that as it's a likely contender at this stage.

Its a grundfos UPS2 pump & the nut in the middle is the bleed nut so can't verify (or dont know how is more accurate) if it's ceased, might be ceased or dead as it was idle for years)

Meant to say I also checked the boiler fan is working OK.

Thanks for all the help lads, it's a bit of buzz trying to solve it.

Ensure boiler switched off, remove pump bleed screw and you should be able to turn the pump shaft with a screwdriver then retry, you should feel/hear the pump running.
Also change power to speed 3, if it works, try it back on speed 2.

Thanks, I did try but my Grundfos UPS2, under the bleed screw is a 'square' looking fixture & that doesn't wanna turn (all whilst the water is spraying, albeit it a fine stream, it's funny!)

its this pump fyi
GRUNDFOS CIR PUMP UPS2 25-50/60 130MM

you were bang on, the pump was ceased. it didn't actually have a 'nut' to turn but i gave it a few shocks hits after a few wollops it's working grand now.

thanks sincerely for the assist guys.

all the best
