Broken hand during the Lockdown

I fell off a bike during the lockdown and broke my hand. I've had the injury before through hurling, it's known as a boxers fracture. Fifth metacarpal bone broken. Because of covid I didn't go to hospital, my own choice. Just taped it up and wore a homemade sling for a couple of weeks.

It's come just as good as the time I had to be X rayed and put into a cast for 6 weeks. Theres a lot to be said for this self medicating business. lol

You should set yourself up as a doctor, sure what could go wrong.

Yes. but while the right hand was recovering surely you used the left a bit more adding to it's deftness?

In fairness, it was the little finger in your left hand - the most inconsequential of all fingers. If you’d smashed your femur in a bear attack and patched it back up with duct tape and the bear’s femur, I could understand the need for a thread.

Happens all the time playing hurling, doctors will still insist you boxed someone.

If it's hurling, they probably did.

You're not going to fracture a fifth metacarpal by pumping yourself off, no matter how hard you were going at it.

The injury occurred from a fall from a bicycle, severve and sudden impact with a road.

Unless you were pulling yourself apart while cycling the bike.

Same thing with me the first time I suffered this injury, fella chopped down on my hand during a game as I was going to rise the ball.

The common name for it is a boxers fracture, It's a very common injury in the sport of boxing. It sort of looks like you've chinned somebody, the knuckle on the pinkie disappears and a big knot develops.

Might have been a more complex injury than mine. The type of injury I substained will most likelyheal up in 6 to 8 weeks with a cast on, there usually wouldn't be any surgery or anything like that involved with it. I had it taped up for 4 weeks and wore a handmade sling for about 10 days.

I knew how to treat it because I ,had, had the exact same injury on a previous occasion.
