I love me a good bit of dance music so wondering what dance shows people think are worth listening in to (here and abroad)?

JJ on Capital can be good but his links are a bit repetitive sometimes (especially now when it’s all about dancing through lockdown)

The lads on Juice FM & Radio City in Liverpool used to be fantastic, all that's left of that now is 6-7pm Thursday/Friday on Capital Liverpool with Anton Powers.

I know this thread is about current presenters but I loved Micky Mac on 2fm in the 90s. Larging it up on Saturday night. :-)

See he gets a lot of grief on other threads on here but I quite like Frank Kennedy of HotFM on the decks myself.

He's a moron, and he is not "on the decks" - he even talks over the actual mixes (clue - he's not mixing). Don't get me started on his "FK remixes".

Stephen, you need to hang your head there in shame.

:D each to their own and all that.

He's a controversial character. You either love him or hate him.

I used to listen because options back then weren't what they are today but the guy simply couldn't mix - to be fair he didn't even try but then he would try and pass off some random mix cd as his own or say that he an exclusive mix from some global superstar Dj and then pop in their latest cd as if it was recorded for 2FM,

Going back even further to the mid-late 80s was a show called "Twelves on 2", presented by Peter Collins (the sports broadcaster). Collins was terrible as a presenter, but it was pretty much the only place to hear full 12inch versions of tracks at the time. Thankfully he wouldn't speak over tracks and wouldn't try to mix, but it was where I got to hear certain remixers work for the first time.

Seems a nice lad but playlists can be a bit repetitive. He's turning Insomnia into the dance version of Wonderwall :pac:

Jenny Greene and Al Gibbs would be my other regulars. And have the pirate stations on in the car 95 percent of the time.

Jenny Greene on the Electric Disco

I guess if you like commercial/chart "dance" music.

It was more for the atmosphere he generated and his cheesy phrases (taking no prisoners) that I listened to his show rather than mixes. I had it on coming back from mass in he car with the father, he wasn't a fan:D

Peter Collins had a show at midnight on Saturday on 2fm in the mid 90's. I'm not sure if it was a totally dance show. The intro music was always a remix of sava mea from faithless. I'm not sure how often it was live as one time I remember Peter doing the show whilst also commentating on the F1 in Australia.

Anyway back on topic, Capital fm London on Saturday night at 10 do a non stop mix with only occasional DJ interruption. It is mostly commercial dance but there is nothing wrong with that.

I listen regularly and wouldn't describe it as that at all.

Does she though - I haven't listened recently but last time I did you could bump into Hiddaway or Faithless very easily. Songs which came out before some of the target audience were born...

Well to be fair last time I listened to her was a long time ago but my memories of the show were that it's more likely "Now that's what I call Dance Music!" than Global Underground etc. I've only seen/heard her live once adn it was a corporate-type gig and it was a chart cheesefest so maybe I'm still scarred from that experience.

Look, different people like different things - and that's all good!

First hour of Freaks on Friday is probably the best hour of music on radio.Always some track that was long forgotten sparks instant memories as only music can.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the former Sound Crowd duo of Mark Kavanagh and Tim Hannigan, aka Mr. Spring - separately or together.

Radiowise, Mark Kavanagh had a much acclaimed dance show on Friday evenings on general music pirate DLR. I think at one stage both were on together on DLR. Tim presented "The Late Late Breakfast Show" on dance pirates Sunset FM and its immediate successor Rhythm FM. I think Mark had a brief involvement with dance pirate Club FM (the '90s one)/ Prior to their '90s pirates, they both contributed to dance shows on Saturday nights on 2FM - I think presented first by Simon Young and then by Mickey Mac. Tim has now had a regular show on Saturday nights for more than 20 years on 2FM as Mr. Spring. Mark presented a short-lived dance show in 1997 on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings on Radio Ireland, since renamed Today FM.

They were also active participants in the dance scene as deejays, musicians (kind of), producers, engineers and as a record label!

For me, John Power on his 2FM Saturday night dance days, Al Gibbs is great, Jenny Greene & Andy Preston when he filled in for Al on his nights off on 104.

John has recently become active again on the radio scene, based out of London with Select Radio. Catch the playback below, we'll worth a listen when they come out on Mondays.
