So being at the end of a road we constantly get people chancing their arm at finding new routes cross country, walkers and cyclists.

We've had private property signs, farm biosecurity etc but they joe public just ignore them. So I'm thinking of a sign saying entry past this point encurs a €50 fee, payable immediately.

I know theres possibility of public liability issues with it but I need some novel sign to get people to piss off so that we dont have to police the place at the weekend

No help with a sign - but interested to know what you mean by end of a road, and how people are changing their arm?

Would a gate across the road help? Or would that just be awkward for ye, and not do much to deter people?

Is it a cúl de sac public road. Or is it a public road and then a private road at some point. If its private would a gate suit.

there is a gate at the minute but it is sometimes left open by neighbors(they have a right of way in).
its a cul de sac and then the gate at the end is us.

The gate should have people thinking that it's not public road after the gate. How about private property keep out, no trespassing located at the side of the gate location. And another one a bit further in just after gate, private property, turn back

While working one day and looking for a particular house out the country, I ended up turning around at a gate up to a house.
Hung on the gate was a football boot with some kind of large animal bone sticking out of it, also a homemade sign saying beware of the dogs.
I asked for directions somewhere else...

Could you pretend that there's an army training ground/rifle range on your farm? I think Glen of Imaal isn't too far from your gaff.

How are people accessing the land? Must they cross over a gate?

We got some custom made iron spikes put on top of our gate, u wouldn't think twice tryna hop it.

If you put up a sign saying that you will charge a €50 fee and it stops the trespassers well and good. But, if you charge the €50 fee and there is a public liability claim it may work to your disadvantage.

Unfortunately, gates do not stop these trespassers.
I have had this problem myself with people from a rented house nearby.
I had to point out that the road that they were inclined to walk on was private and I did not make any exceptions.
Luckily for me the individuals moved away........I was ever so sad

I noticed a excellent sign onto a private road just after Keogh's and Fingal Farm Supplies on the Ballyboughil/Oldtown road.

I'm home tonight and will take a pic of the sign tomorrow in daylight before I head back.

Ya that's to poxy bit of that plan. No matter what 'price' I'd put on it the courts would see it as making it a public place.

    Cheers BP that's be great!

I didn't get going that direction to take the picture.

Here is one that might work for you at the entrance of the lane.

While it is a witty sign, it is actually allowing entry into the field.
