Ireland's anti-Traveller hate speech is the respectable group prejudice.

Our anti-hate speech laws actually shield those engaging in hate speech. Could this go some way to explaining why people on this and other platforms are so hate-filled in their expressions of prejudice against the groups that they feel afraid of or threatened by?

"There is no workable law in Ireland against posting online any material, however sick, that purposefully dehumanises any group of people."
All there is are the guidelines set down by the websites and platforms themselves. Boards doesn't allow racism after a certain degree. Twitter doesn't allow graphic violence. Facebook doesn't allow snuff porn.

Here's the kicker. Travellers already know you hate them. That's why many groups of them engage in hyperviolent acts like something of out of A Clockwork Orange. They would be kneeled on by police if they didn't show that they're "more" powerful.

Black people already know you hate them. You yell it at them as they walk down the streets, scream it from your Facebook page, they don't hire them in RTÉ, they have little or no representation in positions of authority. Maybe that's why certain young lads are so full of hatred that they can engage in sadistic attacks.

The system of law we have here is based off the same antiquated and inefficient commonlaw legal system they use in the UK. It's designed to punish people already coming from places of disadvantages without taking into account the structural hierarchies which contribute to the behaviours.

tl;dr - if you're a bigot against any group, try and imagine you're being told you're a worthless piece of sh!t for your whole life by people from positions of relative privilege and think about how you might act. Also please stop using your keyboard as a shield against any repercussions, if for no other reason than because the law might change and you might find yourself with a target on your back.
