Irish Travel Quarantine Fiasco Question

Im just wondering whats the general opinion is re the 2 week mandatory quarantine when you come home from abroad.

I realise nothing is set in stone on a permanent basis,
But why is it down to the us to isolate for two weeks returning home, when really the government should step up /ACT like a government, and be testing people coming back into the airport from holiday
or am i missing something? Why are they not taking responsibility and doing what they should be doing and giving citizens a test where needed?

I have a few trips earmarked before the end of the year, week here, weekend there but cant make plans based on potentially isolating for 8 weeks if I go on 4 trips.

Over the last 3 weeks we have seen crazy ridiculous carry on in supermarkets and shops with people removing their masks coughing into their hands etc and not sanitizing. Yawning around meat counters, no elbow etc. We've seen all walks of life, all ages not giving a f*** about everybody else in shops etc. ( i CHOOSE NOT to wear a mask but careful re hand hygiene etc and others in my space).

I think the 2 week quarantine is a pure show of how pathetic its being handled now and government taking no responsibility.

Theyre conscientiously telling people they have to stay at home, by making you stay at home re holidays because no one can take another two weeks off work potentially if they want to travel. Just putting a different spin on it.

    What say you ?

Ppl shouldn’t be travelling in the first place

But if they insist on non essential travel they should be quarantining for at least 14 days

This is a war against a virus that has wantonly killed and will kill more

Personally I say you are choosing to take 4 trips overseas and you should live with the consequences of your choices or choose something else.

I'm perfectly happy in a time of contagion that you should have to factor that in to your planning.

Most other people that I know have cancelled overseas trips, I am yet to hear anyone bitXhing about it.

Any one I’ve talked to in the last few weeks said they’ve cancelled air travel and There’s no way they’d travel in a plane until there’s a vaccine

Your missing the fact the government governs for the greater good of everybody and not just yourself so you can take a few holidays.

    Cop yourself on.

I understand the severity of this "virus". Im not taking about next week, later in year, we'd of had time to breathe ? And it would be to the UK.

But what im saying is that other countries seem to be able to test ppl in a timely fashion, surely they could get it done to a week between returning/ testing?

I reckon itll be years before they can get a grip on it.

Based on the idiots ive seen here the last few weeks in shops etc, thats more dangerous?

Looking at the news earlier ppl on top of each other in shops etc that just opened.

You can never underestimate the ability of people to believe that their exception to the rules is harmless while everyone else is the real problem.

If i did book to head off to meet family id do the 2 weeks when i got back, i get that.

In saying that, As there is no normal anymore is it then too risky to fly foreseeable future, like long term, a year, who knows....

If your holiday is after july I wouldn't worry. The quarantine will not be compulsory by then

Do you not think you're being irresponsible ? Advice is not to travel for non-essential trips - a weekend or week here and there for holiday are not essential.

After june 29th there on about the tourism section of ireland opening so not essential then to travel so I dont see a issue on holiday in ireland or somewhere else when holidays here are after tripling in price. I can book a house to stay in in Kerry for 1485 for 4 of us for a week yet can book a week in lanzarote for the four of us for 1300...do the maths

Nothing official but do you really think Ryanair and air lingus would be adding all these flights unless they had a fair idea. Aldo the rest of europe is going to be open. Pressure will mount.we cant stay shut forever

You can fly to Spain as soon as they are taking tourists. I guarantee you Irelands quarantine will be scrapped by July.

You cannot guarantee that. You are leaving yourself open to all sorts by posting such a thing.

Il agree with them that the quarantine will be gone by then. The airlines would be in the know or they wouldn't be adding all these flights. I booked lanzarote earlier for august 1st. Wont be long back in work as going back on June 29th but look forward to a bit of sun.

Any update on the quarantine and when it might be scrapped. A colleague has to travel to Poland to see his very ill mother. He expects to be there for a week and to return to Ireland at the end of June. He is wondering if he will be able to come back to work when he comes back. He is an integral part of the team and we really will struggle without him if he has to remain off for those extra weeks. But obviously we want everyone to be safe too. If anyone knows if there is any word on when the quarantine might be eased, I'd be extremely grateful.

    Thanks

No word on it being eased.

A colleague out of the office for a couple of weeks? Or the whole team out of the office for a couple of weeks because the colleague might have infected them?

I think your manager needs to use their head.

If your employer has any soul, the only sentence that matters there is that he needs to go see his very ill mother. What could be more important than that?

If the quarantine is lifted can an employer enforce a 14 day quarantine on an employee anyway - unpaid?
    Would anyone know?

Work have told us via a hr memo that if we take leave to travel abroad then we need to take 2 weeks annual leave following that trip to quarantine.

I think in your colleagues case he should be allowed work from home for 2 weeks post travel on compassionate grounds.

Thankfully this decision will likely be taken out of the hands of our ultra conservative CMO.

UK travel corridors to be confirmed this week

UK travel corridors to be confirmed this week
    https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-53216079

Here is the content of the BBC article:-

"The UK's list of countries that people will be able to travel to and from without going into quarantine will be published this week, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has confirmed.

In a written statement, Mr Shapps adds that travel corridors being considered are based on things such as the prevalence of the virus and the trajectory of new cases in different countries.

The transport secretary says the Foreign and Commonwealth Office will also soon be giving details on a review of its travel advice to UK citizens.

Since March, that advice has been to avoid all non-essential travel abroad.

As we reported over the weekend, it is thought that the list of travel corridors with the UK will include Spain, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Belgium, Turkey, Germany and Norway - but not Portugal or Sweden.

The government previously said the new rules will give people the opportunity of a foreign summer holiday, while also boosting the UK economy - but the relaxation depends on risks staying low."

I know the CTA kind of joins us at the hip with the UK but how exactly will a non EU country deciding it's national travel policy force the Irish government to follow suit? I don't get it.
