Stamped Concrete Question

    Evening all,

Was hoping to undertake a very small concrete steps job at our back door. Have lots of experience finishing concrete...foundations, floors, footpaths, edging, brushing, bull floating etc. etc. so getting it in and getting it finished won't be a problem. BUT! I have little or no experience with stamped mat concrete and more importantly the colors and release agents.

The job is literally too small to get in a contractor or even get a concrete crowd to deliver, it's basically .48m cubed! So like I said was hoping to do it myself. The pic below is what we were hoping to finish up with, same colors, same center texture and outer wood finish.

I guess some will say, don't bother you'll make a mess, but if I do its nothing a sledge won't cure and I'm sure my ego will get over my failure!!!!

So here's what I'm thinking should be the process...

    1. Mix slate grey dye into base core while mixing. Or would I be better applying this after pouring as a hardener?
    2. Pour both steps, edging with rounded trowel.
    3. Using very little light brown colored release agent, bring up inner texture stamping with stone type mat stamp.
    4. Using a lot more of same brown color release agent on outside edge stamp with 4" wood plank mat.
    5. Remove form, tidy up faces.
    6. Next day wash off release agent and at some point in future seal.

Am I simplifying this too much?

    Thanks all.
