    Replace it.

That looks like it could be peeled back from the number 4 towards the other end of the cut. If you do so you will see the exposed wires most likely.

I would say it would be an NCT fail having seen similar on a car about 7 years ago. I took my sister's car in to be tested and hadn't noticed a cut smaller than that in your pic. Tester was able to show the wires under the cut. It had passed everything else so a quick trip to nearby tyre fitters and I had the pass cert within the hour.

No wires behind the cut.Its not deep either.Just a bit of a flap.

Have a look on the likes of tyreguru.ie for a new one.

Bear in mind that you most likely just gave it a gentle tug and look.

The NCT inspector if they spot it, will use a lot more force to check the defect in an attempt to expose it.

They also might not bother checking and declare it a fail as it is still a defect in the tyre.

The third option is they might not notice it at all, but honestly it's a slim chance.

You would be best to get it replaced even if it passes somehow as it is a defective tyre at this stage.

You sound like you've made your mind up, so why not run it through the NCT and see if it fails? It would only be a visual retest so no charge (as far as I know).

Personally I wouldn't be driving for any distance or time on that tyre.

If that 10mm flap of tyre wasn't needed, tyres would be made 10mm thinner. From your pictures it looks like an accident waiting to happen. The one thing in life I won't skimp on is tyres, the only thing connecting myself and the missus to the road. If €190 is too spendy get a branded part worn, shouldn't be too hard to get the same brand/model.

    What brand is it?
