Nissan Connect issue

I'm trying to connect my android phone to a Micra SV. I've given up on Nissan Connect, I downloaded the app, entered the VIN but cannot get the pairing code.
I've managed to get it up and running with Android Auto using a cable. Everything seems to be there although the interface is not exactly fabulous. Should I persevere with Nissan Connect ? Does it make any difference ?
I've never had a car with carplay before so I'm new to this.
    Any advice much appreciated, cheers.

PS - the car is 1 year old so perhaps the VIN is linked to previous user ??

I bought a 2017 Qashqai a couple weeks ago. Tried connecting up my phone with the nissan connect app. Wont work. I emailed Nissan and they said it wont work on my Qashqai and has been discontinued because not a lot of people signed up to the service.

I managed to get mine up and running using a data cable(not phone charging cable). Plugged it in, hit the Android auto button on screen, hit the phone button on the panel and there it was. Didn't have to use the app at all. Hope that helps
