Hyundai service interval fault

2 year old Kona, services in time at yearly intervals doing tiny mileage. Dealer reset interval but within a week it will say it is due a service in 100 days. It then continues to get bigger and bigger to the point that it currently reads as 3500 days (about 10 years if you do the maths) since last service. Mentioned it to dealer, they reset but it keeps happening, even if I reset on dashboard myself.

Where does the service interval read it’s dates from ? Current date on dashboard is correct so it would appear to be its starting date that is changing on its own. I don’t really want to go back to the dealer about it without an idea where it needs to be looked at. It will make selling it privately a pain should we decide to do so, as it may be viewed as a electrical fault.

Sounds like a software issue, try asking them for a software update. Or maybe try to remove a battery lead for 15 minutes.

Can you reset the service alert yourself like this video

Might only temporarily fix issue but better than nothing.

Yes, that’s easy. But it will be at 100 days overdue within a week of doing that and continue on. Over 3700 days now since last service in February !

If its under warranty then hassle dealer and or hyundai Ireland until they fix it. It might need a whole install of new software or even a module replaced, but dealer should eventually be able to sort it. I think mileage and service details are stored in the speedometer cluster, which might need replacing.

I'm pretty sure I've heard of that before and there's a software update for it.

If you are 3500 days past service, they will refuse the warranty claim

quick update. Hyundai had a look and decided that the nextbase camera that was wired to the rear wiper was the cause. Makes no sense as I have installed these in about 6 cars, including Opels, Toyota's, VW van and 2 Skoda's without fault.

Anyway, removed the connection that friday and the fault is back, as I expected. Went from 364 days Friday to 275 days today.

My question : They said the software was updated. Where is this stored and verisioned ? I took a picture of FW and SW versions from the touchscreen and they have'nt changed at all. So is that my cars FW/SW ? Or is it elsewhere ?

If the fuse box was working correctly then a short in one circuit should not effect another so the camera causing fault makes no sense. Camera was working without fault along with rear wiper before this anyway.

It will be the cluster firmware that gets updated. No way for you to read or find out the version without the correct diagnostic tools.
