Is it worth selling, or just scrap it?

I have an 04 Fiesta that has become redundant as I've just got something else. It doesn't have its NCT due to the lift problem and now Covid, but whilst work was done at the end of Jan so it would have passed the NCT, there's a few more things since. So it would need a bit of work to get NCT ready again and a bit more just to make it decent to drive again, including fixing the knocking from behind, replacing the battery, checking the brakes, investigating an intermittent hiss (I've only heard it once), and replacing a pipe in the cooling system.

By rights, I should probably just scrap it. I've pumped more into fixing it down through the years than it was ever worth, but at the same time, I'm quite fond of it and I've always had a sense of comfort sitting in it! It's served me through two drives to the UK (including all around the country when over there), and a roadtrip around Ireland. It trooped through where other cars would have packed in. It has a lot of great memories attached to it!

There is 184k miles on the clock, but the engine was replaced (without receipts so no proof) about 2 years ago so the engine has about 60k on it. At the same time though, with the age of the car, insurance is expensive, and impossible with some insurance companies.

For sentimental reasons, I'd love to see someone fix it up, even if it means giving it away. Logically though, I know she's not worth much even fixed, and I would absolutely hate if some young person got it cause it's cheap and ended up in an accident because they didn't bother having it looked over.

I've probably just gone soft because of all the fond memories it has given me, and it's probably ridiculous to even ask, but would there be any market for a bit of a fixer-upper at that age?

Given the mileage / dubious engine swap - it'd probably be worth about €300 if it was fixed. The price of the battery is nearly enough to write it off at this stage.

Yeah, to be fair, I posted with the expectation of being laughed out of it but I figured it would be worth the asking anyway!

You could always throw it up for sale for a few hundred, who knows you may well get a bite.

The fiestas are always wanted as cheap runabouts as they are reliable and easy to keep going. I’d chance selling it

It doesn't have a sunroof unfortunately! Nor does my new car actually, which is a pity

Throw her up as is for 500 and take what you can get for it. Plough the money into your new car

I'm not a motor forum regular so I'm afraid I'm not sure what ye mean!

I'm actually going to give it to my brother to strip down and put back together over the summer as he's staying with me for work. It'll be a nice little project for him! He will learn something, I don't have to say goodbye too soon, and by the end of the summer, I'll be sick of looking at it on the street.

You're not familiar with "The Ballad of FrankC21" ?

Its a tune that rings out every so often across these parts. It's a real "Will he/Won't he" kind of thing. (he's also been struggling with a fiesta)
