Breakdown cover (in Ireland)

For years, the wife has had breakdown cover with the AA (with me named) which is now up for renewal (€284 for their Roadside and Home cover).
Is it worth it? When I look at alernatives, they seem so much cheaper - is it a case of you get what you pay for or are the AA just not trying to be competitive?

I see Mapfre offer their "5 Star" cover for €84 but the car must be under 6 years (mine is a 09 and hers is a 2010)

Allianz seem to offer cover for €87 (obviously two cars would be double this) - not sure if this is any good - anyone with experience of it?

Roadrescue.ie provide cover for €69 - is this any good?

RAC don't appear to provide cover.
ADAC no longer offer cover if you don't live in DE.
    Are there any other alternatives?

Is your regular motor insurance policy up for renewal?
Aviva provide breakdown assist (I think through RAC) as a standard benefit on their comprehensive policies.

Might be worth comparing their details here versus what you were getting through AA:

Nah, insurance isn't up for another few months and (based on last year) I'm being crucified because of a (bogus) claim.
Last year my broker managed to get it half of what the next cheapest would offer.

Ive used 123.ie breakdown assistance twice a few years back and they were great. One time involved our car dying on the outskirts of mullingar at 130am after a wedding. We were stranded on the M4 on the dark hardshoulder, yet we were still home (Dublin) within 2hrs.

Phoned the AA up and asked for a discount. Got the cover reduced from €284 to €160.
Figured it's probably as well staying for that price so happy with the reduction.
