Would others agree that it will be odds on certainty that Revenue will have to extend the mod - November pay and file deadline for this year given that many agents do not have the facilities for staff to work from home and that there will be thus almost 3 months of backlog work to get through?

Personally I could see it extended to January 2021.

Any tax agent who does not have the facility to work from home should be shot. More importantly, as they are an “essential service” there has never been any bar on the office being open. I would sincerely hope that the deadline is not extended (and yes, I do work for a firm which offers tax preparation and filing services).

I'd agree. You need a new accountant if they've been unable to work

    No chance!
In fact it may never go back to fully office work.

They may extend it. However there should be no way that a large number of agents would be 3 months behind. Offices in my area, including myself, all have signs to the effect that they are continuing to operate behind closed doors and with procedures in place for collecting or returning physical records.

I have been working from home for over 30 years so haven't had the adjustments a lot of people have. The only disruption here is the lack of face to face meetings. I am continuing normal work hours ( well maybe a bit less as with the good weather I've taken most Friday afternoons off ). I have a lot of clients closed but others are still operating, the grocers, butchers etc. I have also maintained normal phone & email support for all clients. I'm working on the basis of a 14/11/20 deadline as normal.
