An extract from "A Nature Lover's Note Book" by Eric Pochin published in 1944. The author was a leading British naturalist, author and illustrator and I have no reason to doubt the details from his diary. I haven't done any fishing in decades and smoked salmon at Christmas is the nearest I get to the fish, but the entry for May 14th 1943 got me wondering what's the current situation at the weir in Galway?

If people only knew the extent of the mismangement and neglect of our rivers and lakes by various state and semi-state agencies that detroyed so many wonderfull game fisheries and their natural bouties:(
