I want to get a KY Kerry reg on my new car, but I live in Limerick. I'm buying the car using the primary medical cert and the disabled passenger lives in Kerry but I the owner of the car live in Limerick. Can I still have the car registered in Kerry?

Usually it’s not that much of a problem as it’s not linked to your PPS or anything.
I’m not certain how it would work when you’re getting an exemption.

Curious as to how you qualify given that you live in a different county. Not having a go, but genuinely curious.
A family member of a disabled passenger can also qualify for relief if they are living with and responsible for the transport of the disabled person in question and have got the vehicle for that purpose.

If the disabled person only stays with a family member on a part-time basis, the residency requirement is not met.

    (I realise there’s a limerick Kerry border)

I'm his carer and the rule for living in the same household doesn't apply then. Just that he wanted the car registered in Kerry cause he's from there

Just give his address when registering it. Nobody will care

Do you still tax the car as normal when you get the exemption?

You could register the car in your name at his address then do a change of address.
Again, I’m not sure if you need proof of address as part of the exemption process but this should be easily checked.

You get free tax, and 50c off your diesel per litre.

Ok, the reason I asked is that the OP could give the garage their Limerick address but stick Co Kerry at the end instead of Co Limerick. That way it would be registered to Kerry and a number issued. Then the OP could change the address online before taxing the car and logbook is issued. The tax exemption complicates that though so don't know if it would work.

Ah yeah, they’re the ones everybody knows about. Free tolls too.

Not too many toll bridges down Kerry way though.

Dealer registering the car can put whatever address you give them. No issue at all, I work for a dealer and this is not a problem.

Is there any effect on the Revenue paperwork?

Now I have been out of work for a few weeks and could be a bit rusty on the details but as far as I remember this shouldn’t be a problem. Revenue have issued the exemption for vat and vrt. A vat invoice for the purchase of the car and any adaptions will need to be uploaded. The address the car is registered to is not relevant and the exemption applies to the chassis number of the car so once that matches you are ok. Hope this helps.

Not sure on buying through a dealer, but registering yourself you need proof of address. Can't see how you can use another address if they require this.

The dealer does it online and it gets registered to the address they enter.

Very arbitrary it seems. Wouldn't accept utility bills from me, "because it's printed off the internet". I came back with a payslip, which I also printed off the internet, and that was fine.

I was thinking the revenue already have my address and it wouldn't be possible. But maybe the dealer could put in county Kerry anyway and the revenue might not care?
