    1. I have just purchased a domestic property that was previously repossessed by the bank. The water supply is disconnected. How do I get it switched back on?

    Typically, supply can be switched on/off to a property using the outside stop valve located in the meter box, when safe to do so. However, as this property was repossessed, we would recommend that you get in touch if the supply is disconnected.

    Please contact us on 1850 278 278 and speaking to a member of our New Connections department who will be able to advise you regarding this matter. Our New Connections department is open between 9am-5:30pm from Monday to Friday.

    2. Can I temporarily disconnect the water supply to my property?

    In order to turn off your supply from the public mains to your property, you can switch your supply off using the outside stop valve located in your meter box, when safe to do so. Once the works are complete you can turn back on your supply from the same location.

    3. There is a public main running through a house which I have purchased. Am I permitted to extend my property?

    Sewer and drainage connections fall under the remit of the individual landowner and may be moved in line with building regulations. However, the exception to this rule is if there is a public main running through the property under the remit of Irish Water.

    You should have a Way Leave Agreement and the relevant documentation should have been received along with the deed of the property. Queries in relation to the diversions of public mains on private property can be directed to diversions@water.ie and our Diversions Team will be able to assist you further.

    4. Can you tell me if there is Monochloramine used in my supply?

    Monochloramine is not monitored at our water treatment plants as monochloramine is not used as a disinfectant in the treatment process. In fact monochloramine is not used in any of Irish Water’s treatment plants in Ireland. Our treatment plants use sodium hypochlorite or chlorine gas to disinfect the water and this is monitored through the continuous measurement of free chlorine in the drinking water leaving the treatment plant.

    5. I’m currently experiencing low pressure to my cold kitchen tap. Can you look into this?

    Please send a PM with the following details and we can investigate:
    - Name;
    - Address;
    - Contact number;
    - When you first noticed this; and
    - If your neighbours are also affected by this.
