    Hi folks,
    Looking for some advice here.
I've a child doing a 1 year course at college, he would have been due to be finished by now and qualified to look for a job, however due to the coronavirus and his final results being based on a practical exam this now probably will not take place until sometime in the summer due to the restrictions. My question is will he be entitled for job seekers allowance in the meantime seeing as he hasn't finished the course yet?

As long as classes have finished, he should be OK. The full-time student disqualification only applies if he is attending a full-time course of study, and he is no longer attending, just waiting to complete a practical exam. Of course, he will still have to demonstrate that he is looking for and available for full-time work.

If they refuse, he has right to appeal.

Alternatively, if you are on a social welfare payment yourself, you should still get paid an increase for him as long as he is under 23.

Thank you very much. Will he need a letter from the college confirming this to support the application?

They might ask for it. Certainly no harm getting one, but I wouldn't delay making the application. Make the application and they will soon tell you what documentation they want.
