Oil Boiler,Solid Fuel boiler and Solar panels

    Hi Folks.

I have a query so I will give you the background on this.

Our house was a detached house and built in around 2003
We have an oil boiler and had no way of separating the rads and the hot water cylinder

3 years later we got solar panels in and we got the rad heating and water heating.
The plumbers ran 2 pipes to the hot water cylinder.

So we had hot water for the summer months and then we had the ability to fire on the oil boiler be it for water or rad heating via a 7 day horstmann timer.

4 years down the road we went and installed a solid fuel boiler out in our garage(savage job and savage heat using little turf)
The plumber ran 2 pipes from the garage to the utility room and teed this is via the oil boiler.

The problem here is that we cant use the horstmann since this has been put in?

Is there a working way around this as it was 2 different plumbers that put this in?

You don’t say why you can’t you use the timer since ?
My guess is that the plumber too off the motorised valves to leave an open circuit for the solid fuel

    That is correct
    Everything is open now
    Sorry for not explaining that

So is there any way I can separate them again?

Yes but it’s impossible to tell without seeing the system
