Replacing BMW e90 key fob

Hey lads. When I got my 06 e90 the key fob was dead, I’ve been taking the metal key out of the enclosure every time I’ve to lock and unlock the car like a caveman and slide the metal key back into the fob after to start the car. I priced around and I’m getting quotes of 2-300 for a replacement key. I’m aware there’s blanks on eBay for a few euro that need programming. What’s the best way to get a key for my car without breaking the bank? Ideally someone to supply the blank and code it also. I’m not even worried about cutting the metal part, just to have a working button on the fob would be great to get in and out of the thing.

    Yeah, it's not cheap.
Ask around for quotes and go with the cheapest.

€220 is the cheapest so far anyway.

My husband got a replacement key in Lock Doctor for €80 for a 03 330i. Worked perfectly. Worth a try

They just quoted me €220 which seems very high. It’s almost main dealer prices for a fake key that’ll last god knows how long.

Are you sure is the key? Could be the diversity antenna.

Hold they key up against the Shark Fin on the roof to check. My key only works when pressed up against this, or pressed high up against the rear window.

I'd say €220 is very far from main dealer prices. 220 is not really that bad.

No it’s 100% the key. I tried all that.

For my e46 I bought a case and battery and transferred the internals into it myself. Cost about a tennar but honestly I’d never do it again, splitting those keys is a nightmare and the batterys die pretty quickly too.

Those models use a non-replaceable rechargeable battery.
But they do give up and cannot be simply removed and swapped. The case needs to be broken open and the contacts desolderd.

There are replacement batteries on ebay from China but will need to be soldered back on.
Risky task. Don't you have a spare?

Spend the €220 and be done with it. That way your current one will be a spare. Once you have it, the cost will be forgotten.
