Hey Guys - hope your all keeping well in these hard times

So i have been doing well establishing a reasonable quantity of weight in my home - genuinely concerned it could be a while before we are back in business. Prior to Corona, i had 2 pretty basic York Dumbbells and with a combo of iron, and plastic vinyl, i could just about manage to set up 2 x 17.5KG dumbbells, or 1 x 20 if needed for certain single dumbbell exercises. Couldnt really do much and tended to only use if i couldnt hit the gym proper; and only really done curls shoulders and some basic stuff

however, AthleanX, Adverts, and some savings, and i have managed a lot more
    • Adjustable bench, can configure for Incline, decline, flat or Shoulders - not for bar press, no back on this one
    • Hollow Steel Bar. 1" with locks
    • 2 Proper solid Iron Dumbbell Bars 1" Chrome spinlock
    • Aprox 102KG of Cast Iron Plates (2x10, 8x5, and assorted 2.75, 2.5, 2, 1.25, etc)
    • Have an EZ-Grip Solid Spinlock en-route should be here by next weekend i hope

New Split, thanks to Athlean and a few other YT channels, is mainly extra exercises which i would rarely have employed in the gym, but which seem to be reasonable - the newbies include Clamshells, Alternating Jump Lunges, Dumbbell Calf Press, Hamstring Dumbbell Curls, etc - along with all the usual Dumbbell and Barbell lifts (Bicep curls no issues, bent over rows, deadlifts, squats and sumos) im actually very impressed with the progress

Questions on equipment - Aside from the Incoming EZGrip, my only bar is a Hollow 1" - wondering if anyone can gimme a tip on what the max weight would be on this piece - i have seen varying rumours of as little as 40KG (i have already hit 50 so it seems unlikely), and as much as 80KG - mainly in use for deadlifts, curls, shoulder press and the like, but at some point i might try and hunt out a basic bench press - cant reliably do a heavy squat with this, as i live alone and dont have a rack -

Lat Pull Down - iv seen a few adverts for lat pull down rigs and multi gyms that use 1" plates as a stack - does anyone have any experience with these kits? i dont yet have a chin up bar but it is on my list - however the idea of using my disks as a stack is very appealing depending on reliability, price, and combination of pulls

Anything else worth considering? - guess this is the big question. This is now my pet project for the lockdown, and thinking i might alternate my gym use between home and gym after the crisis- so i am thinking of investing in more equipment - list is currently
    • Chin up Bar
    • Solid Barbell
    • Lat Pull down rig
    • Bench Press bench (maybe adjustable)

Aside from that i welcome some chat and comparisons of our home set ups! miss the classic olympic gear we are all used to but i am finding this 1" gear acceptable - enthusiastic about what i can do with it - what else are iron addicts using these days

Today was an excruciating Leg day, with Dumbbell assisted step ups on my Stairs, and the jumping lunges nearly killer me - might not walk for a few days!:D

If you're buying a pull up bar then I think a lat pulldown rig would be a waste of money when you could be looking at squat stands and a couple of 20kg plates to go with the proper barbell.

I was thinking that, and it would hit the Lats with a vertical lift - i was impressed by the idea of having a pull down for various assorted other lifts though - triceps are fine with skull crush and over head work ~(dips and close grip too), but i do find i miss a solid kneeling tricep cable curl -

Only reason i was thinking it was looking at all the multi gyms with 45KG stacks, and thinking of how poor it is to just have that stack - certainly no progression on that gear. But then i noticed some Plate stacking cable rigs - some like this one seemed reasonable

few other variations available too depending what i budget for - this is the most impressive i have seen

    Tricep extension? Bands.

Seems like a waste to get it for movements you can do with what you have or with bands.

And while you have DBs for some lower body stuff, there is a space limitation on the handles which limits the weight. I think you'd get more overall from squat stands than you would from a lat pulldown.

It's expensive but the next thing you should look to invest in is a good quality bar. Brands like Rogue, Blk Box, Elite FTS, and Eleiko are good.

The one that you have will break given enough time or load.

Although you might want to check whether those plates would fit a competition standard bar.

I'd also second Alf's recommendation of a squat stand, as that will allow you to squat and press.
