Dentures for periodontitis

So I have a question about periodontitis and taking dentures.

I know that the common treatment for periodontitis and deep pockets is to regularly clean them by the dental hygienist and of course brushing, flossing and such yourself. And if that doesnt work then there is flap surgery.

But I wonder why are dentures not recommended? Wouldnt that solve the issue? Why do dentists all are of the opinon that keeping your own teeth is so important?

Function....Dentures have about 20% of the chewing capacity of natural teeth.

Hygiene...Dentures have to be removed after every mealtime to wash them, and removed every nighttime during sleep also.

Maintenance.... Dentures can break& become loose & worn over time.

Psychosocial...People associate dentures with ageing; it can be depressing having another reminder. Plus not particularly conducive to socialising & romancing!

The Covid 19 pandemic has caused a lack of PPE& also dentists are advised to avoid any aerosol generating procedures (such as cleanings) .
So for now, optimal oral hygiene at home is an absolute must.

Ask your periodontist about your options when it's possible(ie: safe) to see them clinically.
Seek a second opinion if required- again, when it becomes safe to attend a practice for same.
