I bought a car a few weeks back from northern Ireland. after a week or so it developed a squeak in the rear of the car. I've been in contact with the garage and they've told me that if I bring it in somewhere to get it assessed and then contact them with a detailed assessment and they'd foot the bill.

They did say I'd pay at the time and they'd reimburse me. Is this normal and also should I bring to main dealer. car is a 2016 Audi A6 Avant.

They did say when I bought the car that it had a 6 month warranty.

got similar years back ref Dublin garage and got the work done and paid for by the Dublin garage,I'd ask for an email outlining warranty etc,and get the northern garage owner to contact the guy down here

This is normal, they will look for an official invoice detailing parts used, labour costs and VAT charged and will then reimburse you. The reason for this is that you actually get the work carried out by a legitimate VAT registered business rather than by a mate or not at all to pocket the money. They will also put the expense through their company books. The alternative is bring it back up to them at your inconvenience and get them to repair it.

For what its worth people need to ask these things when they are buying the car and the warranty, they were never going to write a blank cheque for a repair down south they didn't authorize.

Thanks for the responses. Do you reckon I should bring into audi garage or local garage?

You need to be very careful here, main dealers will charge you the same as if it were a brand new car, they will diagnose and attempt to fix it as per the manufacturer's guidelines along with replacing any parts with brand new OEM Audi parts, irrespective of the age of the car. What if the northern dealer doesn't want to reimburse you the hefty main dealer's bill? You need to talk to the northern dealer and tell them you are bringing it to an Audi dealer and see what their reaction is. I certainly wouldn't authorize the Audi dealer to do any work beyond finding the fault until the Northern dealer approves to reimburse you the bill.
