Liable and Social Media

It boggles my mind how some people lose all sense of kop on when it comes to the internet. A post got put up about a politician on a news site on FB. A poster comes on and says this TDs niece, not a politician, was a known bully in her workplace and names her.

Thankfully the remark was taken down. Don't people realise that other's are entitled to their good name. Similarly we had a hotel on this fine website being slaughtered based on hearsay and the establishment was named. Thankfully the thread was shutdown but it took time.

Social media seems to have let some people feel the gloves are off with respect to respecting the good name of another or an establishment.

It may have to get to the point where the operators of websites such as boards and FB have to have comments put through a vetting process before public viewing.

Are you only realising that now, its the disconnect because its social media, they are a bit dense, some don't care, its an outlet for some with a personality disorder or other mental health issues? The situation the op is talking about sounds like small-town gossip conducted via social media.

Politicians attract horrendous abuse and irrational hatred and social media make the poster on social media feel they are getting back at the politician in some way.
