    Hi.

Noticed that there is a smell coming from shower plug in man bathroom.

Usually been used by Son on weekends etc but he locked down now for past few weeks in h8s midweek gaffe

So.. is there anything tha I can throw down to freshen it up. I will try and run i5 daily from now on and have the odd shower in there myself to keep the water flowing.

But any other safe recommendations would be good .... as don’t want to put anything down that could corrode pipes etc.

    Any thanks

I'd run some Vigor drain unblocker if I were you before breaking out the potpourri.

Put baking powder down it, then throw a some vinegar down. They will react and foam up. rrinse through then with hot water. Worth a shot if you already have them in the press

Just spotted it for sale on line in SuperValu. Worth a lookup when out shopping later

The smell is either stagnant water in the shower trap or the water in the trap is getting syphoned out as you flush the toilet. Either way pouring a mug full of water down daily is all that's required

If it's not being used, it might just be that the trap has run dry. Run water down the drain for a few minutes, then leave it, see does that make a difference

A little bit of bleach and two kettles of boiling water.

    Bread soda not baking powder.

The issue here may in fact be, due to incorrect plumbing, that the shower trap is being emptied and that the smell is not from the shower but from the external sewer pipe.
before horsing loads of chemicals down, just pour a pint of water into the trap and see does the smell go.

I suspect you are right. In many instances because of height restrictions a small enough S bend may have been installed which wouldn't hold much water.

If this is the case and the shower hasn't been used in weeks the water in the S bend may have evaporated and now the smell from the septic tank / sewer line is coming into the house.

Simply allow the shower to run for a couple of minutes once or twice a week.

It is drying out quickly due to lack use??? a little tip to stop it evaporating... pour water in it, then some vegetable oil...

This is the most likely cause alright.

OP, just dont start mixing household cleaners down the drain, certain ones when mixed can give off chlorine gas.
