Painting driveway gates

Looking for advice on how to tackle the job of repainting my driveway gates (electric - so in daily use).

From what I can tell the steel gates are galvanised and coated somehow in black.
(How can I tell if they were originally dip/powder coated or painted?)

They are a bit tired and faded looking and the paint has chipped here and there, particularly where they hit a stop or where they close together.

But in general they are in good enough order - no visible rust.

Would a normal metal paint suffice? Would I need a primer?

    Thanks.

Give the gates a good sanding, after sanding wipe down with methylated spirits.
Then give them two coats of a product called “rust-oleum combi color”, it’s a primer and top coat in one.

    Thanks for the input.
I see it is available in Original which can be applied on previously painted surfaces.

Or you use a primer on Galvanised followed by the Original.

I guess in my case the Original would suffice on the sanded gate.
