Hi, can anyone make out what type of fixings these are? They are securing a partition in my car port, I want to remove them and move the partition.

Could anyone advise best way to remove them without damaging the partition so it can be reused?

    See pics below

    Thanks!

They're express nails - might come out, might take a chunk of block with it. Or you'll destroy the timber trying to get them out with brute force.

Smartest approach would be to get a drill bit the same diameter as the express nails, and drill them out. Then move partition to its new location. If anything is left of the old express nails afterwards, hammer it flush with the wall.

Great stuff, thanks for quick reply. What sort of anchor would you recommend to fix the partition in the new place? Are these express nails good? What sort of length would I need? The partition joist is 4 cm thick

If you're mounting the partition to the same material, then yes, express nails are fine. Just redrill them at a new location in the timbers for a solid purchase - don't reuse the old holes, as you'll have drilled them out. Would probably use something around 90mm long - I don't know the exact lengths they come in.

If you can get some play in that piece of timber with a crowbar under it then you might get a hacksaw blade in behind it so you can cut it off. Hold hacksaw blade in a rag to prevent it cutting your hands.

As handy as express nails are, framing screws are even better in my opinion.
I'd use 7.5x80 or 90 for that. Just drill a 6mm hole in the wall and drive the screw home. Much easier to remove too if you make a mistake or want to remove it again in the future.

Prefer express screws myself for mistake changing.

Yeah, they'd be bang on! I've used them for everything from fixing steel, cabinets, gates and all sorts to concrete. Just make sure to get all the dust out of the hole as best you can. If you find they're not quite playing ball, back it out and back in a few times and you'll be golden.
