RTÉ are to turn off all DAB muxes and stations tomorrow from what we’re hearing. Hardly likely to happen now in my view, opinions?
If nothing else, I would imagine Gold will be kept online at the very least And I can’t see them wanting to take it off DAB either, especially if there is to be more Simuel casting between it and Radio One
I’ve also heard that funding has been allocated under the Sound and Vision scheme for Radio One Extra, which would indicate that that is going nowhere either

It would be very poor form from RTE to shut things down in the present climate, where people are more likely than ever to want to listen to the radio.

I'd wager they had sweet f all intention to ever close anything down.

Exactly, it's now looking more like it was all a stunt (even if you ignore current situation).

    Why do you say that?

    Why do you say that?

They haven't followed through with the closures. It seems like they were just trying to create a backlash against closures and use this as leverage for funding.

As I said in another thread, RTE haven't closed or sold anything the past decade, there has been plenty of announcements and leaks to the press about closures and sales the past decade but it always amounts to nothing.

Was it not said a couple of weeks back, that the digital services would remain on for the moment, due to the current emergency situation?

I am sure I saw that mentioned somewhere.

I think Rick O'Shea may have tweeted something vague that he'd be here for a little while longer. I have seen no dates or official confirmation.

The decision to close RTE Gold was not a stunt - all weekend staff were let go and day time shows were cut to 'staffers' in preparation for the closure of all DAB services today.
The current situation has given the station a stay of execution.

’’Were cut to staffers‘? What do you mean?
Are all weekend and weekdaytime shows gone?

All the weekend staff were let go at the end of December.
Staffers ie full time employees of RTE aka a fixed/unavoidable cost.
