How do you remove number plate. It has what looks like a white plastic screw cover. I tried plying with a screwdriver but it marks the plate. I only want to remove an advert and will use the plate again. Can you buy the screw covers without buying plates ?

    *don't know the term

It's just a cap most likely, knife or flat head screw driver....

You will see it isn't at the plate where the opening is it's much closer to you, run the screw driver along the plast outwards and it will flick out...

I was looking at above i might get new plates they are slightly bent where the plastic advert was.How come above can sell one not nct compliant andthe yellow one which are illegal?

It says 8 sticky pads 4 screws. Are the pads just to hold while fitting the screw? Would these be consider good plates. it says "Plates are made from a rigid acrylic plastic & backed with a vinyl print the same as your standard NCT Car plates" Is that OK as plates go?

Because you could be buying them to put on your wall, use at car shows, or use off road. Obviously 99% of people buying them use them on the road

All vendors of non-compliant plates will claim they are "show plates".

Rather apt they use a Donegal reg for them considering how many Donegal plates are non-compliant!

OK well I want legal plates since i do not have the delusion the law does not apply to me. These are OK as plates go? 12.50 each is that standard?

I wouldn’t support companies like that.

I don’t think even their supposedly NCT compliant plates actually meet the dimension or spacing requirements.

If not they are in breach of advertising rules. Where would you think I should source plates?

Do the NCT actually measure the dimension or spacing requirements.?

They would know by looks but if in doubt they will and will fail even if county in Irish is missing.

why would you support them and not the others. In relation to the others you said "I wouldn’t support companies like that." Like what? What is wrong with the first ? you said their spaces were not correct but in terms of irish number plates you say "they look to be compliant"

What is the difference between the two?

In fairness there aren’t many number plate companies that Only sell legal NCT compliant plates. I have german style ones with no county or hyphens.. not harming anybody

Anyway your really over thinking it. Just buy a set of plates.

This is the site I use https://www.radiatorservice.ie/

No idea why radiator places sell reg plates as well, theres a few that do that.

That company Colm linked also do illegal plates, they all do it, nothing illegal about selling them, just using them in a public place is ‘illegal’. I think it carrys 1 penalty point but nothings ever been said to me over the past few years

The issue i asked colm is why he said he wouldn't "support a company like that."in relation to the first but supports an identical one he does not know anything about. And whether or not your plates harm anyone irrelevant. All it means is that the garda do not do their job. There is only one legal plate in Ireland so by wanting one i am not 'overthinking'

Buy what you want. I’ve shown you the dimensions required, and you can surely see the pictures of the plate the first company are doing?
I can only show you the difference, I can’t understand it for you too.

you said "i would not support a company like that". Like what? have you something against them

Like one that clearly specializes in stickers for agri-spec inbreeds, and illegal plates - and the ones they claim to be compliant clearly aren’t.

Nothing against people making a few quid but they won’t get my money.

(Of course the place I linked also has illegal plates available too!, but the legal ones at least look legal)

They are brilliant. Lovely staff and very fair on price. My last two sets of Number Plates came from them.

You get number plates for a tenner in most motor factors, €15 I paid for pressed steel.

Rightly so. It's the legally required standard. The county, though an English construct, is important to be displayed as Gaeilge.

To the Op, generally to remove a number plate I find a drink-induced roll through a ditch on a badly surfaced Offaly road does it for me.

they are based in letterkenny donegal, probably why they use DL

although there is a lot of illegal plates (ignored by the gardai) but a lot less than there used to be

I only ever used the sticky pads as the plate looks much 'cleaner' without the screws/holes.

Clean off any dirt on the car surface before applying the pads and make sure the plate is alligned correctly both vertically and horizontally before sticking on.
