Can Ireland make any PPE itself?

Important to point out if you are doing anything here because you feel you really need to.. then you really shouldn't. If you need PPE, especially homemade or reused, because you are at risk for health reasons, then you are far better off staying at home and asking a friend/community group to run errands for you.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6ADNMFRzIM < No sew mask!! If we all wear things like these we can limit the spread from people who don't have symptoms. As riff says, do NOT rely on PPE to protect you if you are vulnerable, homemade or otherwise, stay indoors!

https://www.fashiongirlsforhumanity.org/products/gown-pattern-package < this gown looks so easy to make, I'm going out of my mind I've no sewing machine. I sew about 4 stitches a minute that would take me a week without a machine. Hospitals and nursing homes will need things like this. Donegal said in that RTE article they'll run out tomorrow!

    https://seattlemakers.org/sewn-mask/ < mask

https://www.craftpassion.com/face-mask-sewing-pattern/ < this one looks easier to make to me but the other one looks better

mask that stops you being able to smell bacon! looks great!

I have a some wire and elastic and plenty cotton if anyone in Dublin is doing this and short of materials.

I know we are not known as a manufacturing superpower ,but I was just wondering do we have any manufacturing that can be adapted or supported by government that can help supply the PPE we need.
Looking at things in USA and Asia (India at the moment) it looks like there will be a major increase in demand worldwide.
Also China seems to be sending us some stuff that’s not up to standard for our pandemic needs.
I did see that company up north making scrubs and the college students printing face shields which is fantastic ,but has anyone any more suggestions that could be acted on.

Any company that makes clothing esp if it's for industrial use and has a blueprint which they can apply could do so you'd think.

Fair play to Bloc blinds in Co. Derry for making these, the local council has given them the sports centre so they can expand production.

Irema, a wholly owned Irish company, is busy recruiting new workers as it has to double output over the next week. ......

Irema exports most of its masks internationally to western Europe and the Middle East. It also sells to China which is finding it hard to keep up stocks from its own manufacturers.

Azzurri Sport in Waterford is making masks for the HSE. I think they can make gowns and other coverings but I know for a fact they are making masks.

    "What a week!

Thanks for all of you enquiries and for all your messages of support. They are greatly appreciated by all our staff!

As of today we have distributed 5000 masks to nursing homes, hospitals, & community healthcare workers with more to go out early next week.

At the moment we are working on how we can make this sustainable on-going, as we have seen there is huge cry out for PPE in these difficult times. We will update everyone on this as early as possible next week.

In the meantime please keep your requests for masks and polo's coming and we will continue to be of service while we can.

    Stay Safe!

    Azzurri Sport"

More than 800 sets of scrubs for nurses, have been made for free by a company that usually makes fabric for buses.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our cry for help in response to a huge shortage of “Scrub’s” or Becks as we call them, for the front-line health workers. With all of your help we have raised a staggering €10,000 in just 2 days along with an anonymous substantial donation of €5,000. We have delivered over 300 sets and another 220 sets off Becks ready to go for today, that’s over 500 sets of Becks. This money will make a further 670 sets of Becks Scrubs; rest assured that these will be completed in the next few days. As a result of all your effort we have come to the notice of the HSE and we have now been asked to make these items for them. So we are closing off the Go Fund me page. With these orders we will be able to keep 25 to 30 people employed for the next few weeks or longer. There are enough quality manufactures and companies in Ireland that could and can make all of this PPE items needed by the HSE and others. Its times like this that remind me of the old slogan “Buy Irish”. Thank you most sincerely to everyone and anyone who helped to make this happen. Ni neart go cur Le Cheile (There is strength in unity) Yours Sincerely The Ardee Coach Trim Ltd. team
    That's cool.

Thanks to pharma and medical, we are actually a manufacturing superpower :D
Fair play to everyone who has turned their manufacturing to making masks and PPE.

To anyone thinking of doing this, it's important to liase with the HSE first to coordinate efforts and ensure you're making the right PPE in the right quantities to the right standards.

There have been reports that HCPs are using 3d printed face shields that are not capable of being cleaned as the plastic prints are porous.

    Stay safe everyone!

This moved me on a few levels - from the sheer positivity of it - to the community spirit and solidarity and humanity of it:

Organisations can post the categories of PPE or other medical supplies that they have to offer, along with contact details and their geographic location, so that their local hospital or clinic procurement staff can easily see them on their local map and efficiently make contact with them immediately and arrange equipment donation / local transportation.

Alcohol companies in many other Countries have switched to making hand sanitiser,
the Irish gin/whiskey distillers can do that, too

And already are. Irish Distillers being the biggest one but a few of the craft producers began earlier, Blacks and Listoke being early ones.

Wisetek specialises in recycling laptops, has repurposed one of its production lines for the assembly of life-saving ventilators for our hospitals.
Capable of assembling 50 ventilators a day from components sourced with firms that have been hugely supportive of the initiative.
