Apologies if this has already been discussed. What do people thing about people in Australia/NZ moaning they are entitled to nothing from the Governments due to the type of Visa's. Many expect Irish Government to pay them to stay and live over there during the crisis.

The Government should try get those flights home if they want to return but that's it.

The sense of entitlement is beyond me. We are supposed to have sent the "educated" to Australia and most haven't a penny to there names apparently.

My opinion they should be given zero financial assistance, this should only change if they contribute a % of tax per year to Irish exchequer while abroad.

Sorry - just wondering could you link to an article or the like or did you hear it on the tv/radio?

IMO, knowing nothing other than what you've written, yes if they are citizens here + want to come back home they should be helped with that but it is not job of the government to support them while they are living in Australia (crisis or not)!

Considering we are minding our migrant workers who are stuck here in Ireland, including Australians, they should mind those over there.

    This is a unique situation.
These people have lost their jobs because of Coronavirus and draconian Australian restrictions. They have no way of leaving the country and are not entitled riled to and welfare payments from Australia

They pay into the system here and meet our rules (doesn't mean I agree). Just because Aussies are not quiet as generous doesn't mean taxpayers foot the bill to keep them in Australia,

Many have a way of leaving. Irish Government has got hundreds out in recent days.

I have some sympathy for them but expecting Irish taxpayer provide social welfare is mad.

My cousin has spent €6k in the last few weeks on flights that keep getting cancelled and no refunds yet.

Uff Australia should definitely pay them food and rent money, and everyone else who lost their jobs because of this thing, like we are. You can't leave people who came here / went there in good faith starve because of where they are from. Australia aren't poorer than Ireland, why are they being such pricks?

There was an announcement today, those on tourist visa were advised holiday is over time to go home. 457 and student visas if you have a job and are working no problem continue working, if you have been stood down you can access your superannuation to help you survive but if you are going struggle just go back to you own country. If you are a backpacker on a WHV you are basically on holiday if you got enough money to keep you going fair enough but if you are going struggle time to home. If you working in Healthcare, childcare or farming you can get a free 1 year extension to your WHV to stay but only in those industries. Also a warning to backpackers if you don’t follow instructions like social distancing etc or not doing the right thing and the police get involved your visa will be cancelled and you will be deported. There’s a hotspot of infections in Bondi and backpackers at parties etc ignoring advice ended up positive so their behaviour and carefree attitude makes fair game.

What on earth? People are still backpacking? Put them in prison.. actually, in fairness, it's not like you pay any attention to the news when you're backpacking... it's really someone else's responsibility to send them the flip home and quarantine them

The Australian numbers are still relatively low, they had cases well before us, right? Maybe the spread really is slower in hot weather and sunshine? (though obviously still a huge problem)

Well everything is closed down, pubs, hotels etc. plenty of restrictions so hard to miss.

Australia is on day 70 most of the cases originated overseas but the latter ones mostly community transmission including a cruise ship, to be honest it’s not that hot over the last few months weather changed at the end of January been cooler and wetter but we have one of the highest rates of testing per capita in the world so been catching positive cases fairly quickly.
