I have a sky + hd box but not sky subscription anymore. I am wondering can I use the box to watch UK Freeview channels and is it possible to record/ rewind channels still? Also do I still need a sky viewing card?

You can watch FTA channels but not record/rewind. Some channels would need to be watched via Other Channels (depending on the EPG loaded on the box). A proper Freesat box would save you a lot of bother.
