In owning one of these, am I blindsided by thinking they may now be going up in value or are they still a bit, meh.

    180bhp quattro which is unmodified.

there so cheap now they most certainly will go up in value, but not by any sort of an amount that would make you any real money on keeping it for that purpose

240 bhp quattro sport are worth a few quid but always have been.
The basic cars are worth nothing at the minute.
I bought an ok 225 quattro for buttons last years and stripped it for trackdays so knowing my luck, good unabused ones will be worth a fortune in a few years.

Update. Painted and waiting on a wheel refurb. Great weekend of weather for it.

    Looks great.

Ive a TT and an A5 here and when both are cleaned up, the TT looks the fresher design.

Looks great, don't see many red ones at all.

Thanks. Apparently is was a specific order too. Brilliant red was the standard red, this is Misano Red, pearlescent. Hints of gold in the sun. And costs a fortune as I found out...!

Wheel refurb and a new battery and then I'll decide what to do with it.

That’s a cracking looking TT, jeez it’s amazing how fresh that design still looks!

It doesn’t have an 05-G reg by any chance? I remember the local dealers having a demo just like that car back then, and the red is fairly unusual.

Thanks Joe. No it's a 03 D reg on it!

Keep it after that kind of outlay.

It didn’t have a small dent on the drivers side sill before did it?
I sold a similar one before.

    That's very nice.

I think I've only ever seen them in silver, black or blue in the flesh.

Had you any luck in sourcing a mk5 gti?

    Nope. I took this instead!

But we'll see, the next one could be a Mk5 GTI with a DSG.

Have toyed with one myself recently, the fact that they’re starting to be accepted for classic insurance now makes them a nice summer weekend car.

The mk1 TT is one of the best looking cars from its era, the interior and seating/driving position is near perfect.

Only downside is how they drive, even in 225 version they dont feel fast, that 1.8 vag lump is souless and they understeer terribly when you try to get spirited with them. A car like that should never have had a torsion beam rear suspension setup. Such a pity how they drive and handle doesnt live up to its stunning looks.

To the original poster, i can see them increasing in value, however i cant ever see them being a collectors item unless the 3.2L V6.

Only the FWD TT has a torsion beam set up - quattro versions have independent rear suspension (All haldex VAg cars from that era have IRS)

Now a finished project and dipped my toe in the sales market at exactly what it cost me. Interesting to see if there's any interest.

I've been eyeing the advert. If I could get to Dublin for a look at the moment I'd have been already. Looks fantastic.

The Quattro I can say with the utmost confidence does not understeer.

My mother had one a long while back and in my eager youth I tried to make it understeer many a time to no avail.

You may have the utmost confidence that it doesnt understeer but i had one for a month (225 quattro) while i was considering buying (from a buddy who was selling one) and it was possibly one of the most underwhelming "performance" cars i have driven from a handling perspective.

I had consistent understeer pushing through corners at pace. The haldex diff is setup to be predominantly front biased and thats when its engaged at all, a lot of weight at the front in what is a heavy car. I looked into what could be done to try to setup the diff with some rear or at least 50:50 bias but it was mega bucks. Pity because i loved the looks and interior.

Tossy - thanks for the correction, had assumed all were torsion beam suspension!

Could been poor tyres or something but it was seriously planted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I have a tt 225 stripped for track. It only had one outing yet but
    on track it understeers.
What i found is that you turn it in hard as you like. Car senses the rear is moving towards oversteer and uses every electronic trick it has to plant the rear again at which point it has pushed the car into understeer and wide in the corner so stock setup requires a smooth driving style.
Coding out the esp should have this cured so eager to try it along with its weight loss and track tyres.
