Tax back service recommendation

    Hi,
I did not work until mid May last year after a redundancy.
I would like to claim back the tax on this.
I am aware of a number of forms that I can complete on the PAYE site but while thinking about this I thought it might be a good idea to have someone take a look at how my wife and I claim all allowances.
    - best way to use our credits
    - best way to manage health insurance BIK (both of our companies offer this)
    - figure out what we are not claiming for
    - claim for last year while on job seeker's benefit

Can anyone recommend a good service to cover this?

    Thanks,

From what you say your stuff is very straightforward and you should look after it yourself and save losing a percentage of your refund to some company.

Any questions throw them up here and you'll get the info you need.

First thing to do if you haven't already, register yourself and your wife for MyAccount on Revenue.ie.

Literally filing an EForm 12 for 2019 yourself will take care of most of those issues. Please note you should have been taxed correctly for 2019 unless there were multiple employment's, you were on emergancy tax for the whole year or you were on a week one basis. Are you jointly assessed for tax?

    Okay - thanks.

Is it a P50 that I need to submit to tax against unused allowances for 2019? Can I do this online?

How do I figure out how to maximise the use of my wife and my tax credits - she works part time.

On health insurance - we are both offered this, but I find it very difficult to figure out the BIK impact based on two different plans and, again, due to the fact that my wife works part time.

    Thanks for any input

I was under the impression that I was not taxed correctly in 2019.

I started working again on May 16th.
It seemed that normal monthly tax credits were applied, so I should be able to claim unused credits from Jan 1st to May 16th?

You may have been put on a week/month one basis. A from 12 tax return for 2019 should take care of any overpayment/underpayment arising form this issue.

P50 only applies to in year periods of unemployment. File an EForm 12 for 2019 to resolve this issue.

If you want assistance with splitting your credits and rate bands if you are jointly assessed, post you expected annual gross income for you both.

BIK is just a salary payment by another name. It gets added on to your normal salary and you are taxed accordingly. If your employer is paying health insurance as a BIK for you, you can look for tax relief up to the standard limits for the premium paid. If you bought Health Insurance yourself privately that tax relief is already applied at source.
