What is the merit of the lie detector test in Irish courts. Is the test conducted even more than once a year on this Island? Is much weight attributed to it. Has the test been proved wrong ?

I'm not sure if the matter has been ruled on by an Irish court, but in other common law jurisdictions I think the general rules is that, in criminal matters, evidence of polygraph tests is not admissible, on the grounds that (a) it's the function of the jury to assess the credibility/truthfulness of the witnesses, or (b) it has not been shown that polygraphs are as reliable as a jury might take them to be, or (c) both of these.
