D1 licence due to expire

My driving licence was issued on 1st May 2015 for ten years but I also have a mini bus class D1 licence which expires in May this year.

Do I have to renew my full license again or what happens now? It’s unfair if I have to pay for a new licence every 5 years because of a stupid system that doesn’t allow the two to be issued on the one licence for the same period.

I can’t find anything on the cluttered messy NDLS website.

Each catergory is dated separately, so your car licence will still be valid, but your minibus one won’t.

Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious.

I asked if anyone knew if I have to renew my full licence again and every five years instead of 10 years.

Most likely. You'll renew the restricted category for 5 years and hopefully get another 10 on A and B. Not that it makes much difference if you have to renew every 5 years for the D and C it doesn't matter when A or B expire. The only true way to know is to call the RSA. I'm in the same boat.

Seems like it needed to be stated if you can’t even read the rules regarding licences. It’s five years for any class above a car.
    Good day!

Again stating the obvious. I know it expires after 5 years. I didn’t ask anything about the expiry period.

Does anyone know if I have to pay €55 for a new licence every 5 years in order to keep my D1 licence?

I emailed NDLS on Wednesday but haven’t had a reply yet.

Yes it's full price for half a licence and they wonder why drivers are leaving in droves when they keep throwing costs as wages get worse.

Thank you. It’s a ridiculous situation and set up.

I have a D license, and yes you pay for the renewal, and the medical, and the eye test... That's just the way it is. Its hardly a big deal.. 11 quid a year? There are far worse situations I think....

Getting a medical could be difficult in the current crisis.

It should be like the PSV licence, in addition to your main full licence although not the ridiculous €250 every 5 years obviously.

it gets worse lads i added a car trailer licence to my lot (A , B D1 C1) about 4 years ago. i had only renewed licence/done medical 6 months earlier. they said that adding a new catagory must trigger a new licence period for all catagorys so i had to do medical again. they could not give me a 10 year expiry on A B BE and a leave the 4.5 year expiry on the C1 D1.
i respect the licencing system and reconise we need it but that level of BS is simply stupid.
