Football Manager have made their game free to play for a week. Very nice gesture in fairness. Might give it a go after a few years break.

Same, not into games but this one I got truly addicted too. I'm thinking though if forced to self isolate this would make 14 days go by in the blink of an eye.

All of the above is so true. It is way too addictive , from looking up formations to scouting for the next wonderkid , it just takes over your life.
    Do not buy!!

Ignore these newer football manager games. Waaaay too in-depth.

Championship manager 01/02 is the only one worth playing.

    Still incredibly addictive though.

I've just played it for the last three quarters of an hour or so and you're spot on.

Its not quite as simple as just downloading it though when unless you’re running Windows 98. I miss windows 98.

For Windows 10 you need to install something else before it’ll run the downloaded file. Can’t remember it’s name now but it’s like a fake drive or something so the machine thinks it’s running on an older machine.

That’s my interpretation of it anyway. Not an IT guy though so could be completely wrong on that.

It's an ISO file so you need to use a virtual drive (easier and recommended) or burn it to a disk (old school). Nothing tricky about it.

Edit: Or simply extract the ISO. I believe Windows 10 actually also had built-in ways to mount an ISO so it's actually easier than back in the Windows 98 days. :)

Did any one try FM Touch 2020, not as complicated as the full FM, and it works on Tablets/Ipads/Computers

The iPad ones are a simpler alright but still not a patch on Champ manager 01/02.

The more important question here is, why are you running Windows 8?

I installed 01/02 the other day after realising that I still have the cd! How sad am I?

04/05 and signing all the wunderkinds!
Tevez, Van Den Borre, Adu, Mascherano, and then signing all the Veterans and putting all your money into the academy so when the retire, your new youngsters inherit their stats!

    Those were the days.

Do you need internet access to play it. I was thinking of using it on a laptop which I don't access the internet on but I would download the ISO file to another device and copy it over.

it came on the laptop. I haven't upgraded it to win 10 because i'm (still) waiting for a backup drive i ordered a while back. Cant upgrade till I back up my data.

    thanks for your concern

Nope just mount it to a virtual drive. Windows might have a tool to do this, otherwise Daemon tools or similar will do it, and then run the game in xp compatibility mode.

any chance of a step by step guide (or a link to one) on how to do this?

for most of the in depth stuff you can assign to your assistant. training, team talks/instructions, scouting, etc. that's always my 1st step in a new save.

main things are the transfers and formation/team selection.

think championship manager 3 was my favorite. parma...buffon, cannavaro, thuram, veron, crespo, ortega, stanic. and then the others...fuser, bennarivo, dino baggio i think. still think i have it at home, may try to dig it out.

In Windows 10 right click on the iso file and select "open in windows explorer". This will create a virtual drive in Windows Explorer e.g. F: and you can click into this and run the setup program.

Absolutely! Bought all of the above at some stage. Van de Borre could fetch £100m after 4-5yrs, the price of half a team.

I saw a link on ladbible the other day to say that they've created a version of CM01/02 with current day match squads.

Edit - never mind, someone already posted a link for this.

There's actually a step guide on the champman forum on how to do all this and update the player data.

Well that solves the lockdown boredom :)
