Smell in car

    Hi,

I bought a car last month, 2016 reg.

When I test drove it there was a mouldy smell in the car, I was told this was because it was sitting in the lot for a while and that the smell would be gone when I picked up the car. Needless to say it wasn't but I was assured it would slowly vanish, it hasn't.

I have an odour eater bag, dehumidifier bag, coconut air freshener hanging from the mirror and yet I can smell the mould.

I called them and told them the situation, the chap said he would call me back today/tomorrow.

What should I expect here? What is the best course considering the smell is bad, everyone who gets in the car mentions it.

    Thanks

    frAg

Check the back seat foot well and under the front seats. If the door seal is gone water will get in causing damp /mold smell. Then carpet clean the wells and seats if cloth based. Air. The smell will gone once used more often. Check your boot as well under the cover. Water could be gathering where the spare tyre is or lights.

There was an issue with duster cars where the water leaked from air conditioning. Potentially could cause a fire. Many were recalled. Friend had to flight to get it removed on a 3month old car.

Any idea on the source is, was the car in a flood? Changing the pollen filter would be a good idea if the source is not within the cabin itself.

Il check filter, no idea of source or if it was in a flood.

    Spilt milk maybe?

Get some baking soda, put it everywhere.... Obviously you're going to have to deep clean but also enzyme spray may be your friend....

Now saying all that how long have you got it, I'd actually be getting them to fix the issue to be honest if it recently.

I would think it unusual of a car that new but I once had a car with a mouldy smell in it and found out the spare wheel well was full of water

Also once had another car with a bit of a smell from the aircon. Bought a can of treatment from a motor factors which did the job

This might sound bizarre but one of the work vans stank of mould. It turned out to be coming from the washer bottle. It got worse when you sprayed the windscreen. I think the driver poured disinfectant or similar into the washer bottle and it went away.

Agreed, I have spent about £35 so far on stuff to get rid of the smell, its up to them now.

    Fairy?

Can any advise on what I can expect from the dealership? Can they just say tough luck or must they do something. I did not take out a warrantee with them as still have two years manufacturers warrantee left if the makes any difference?

    thanks

Maybe on if the kits for sterilising the AC system.

Few years ago my brother was having a similar problem and that’s what worked for him.

It’s the garages problem, it was pointed out on day 1.
