I recently bought a second hand house. Connected to the tank is a small cylinder type thing but I have never seen one of these before and have no idea what it does. Its about 12 to 14 inches high and 2 to 3 inches in diameter. I was buying an apt timer for the immersion when I noticed it. Anyone know what it could be?

It could be an external immersion heater. Does it have any electric wiring? Post a pic.

That's it, a Willis. Any advantage in having it?

Bought an apt timer today in order to have hot water from the immersion in the evenings. Should I have bought a digital one.

Having a new external oil boiler installed, plumber told me to put in a 2 channel programmer. Hopefully I'm no doing an overkill here.
