Gas Fire - Flame Failure Device replacement.

    Hi all,

    Below average DIY'er here.

A couple of years ago one of the Flame Failure Devices (or Thermo-Couple) on my NEFF gas cooker failed and through a process of research and careful disassembly I was able to buy the part online and swap it in for the broken part.

Was a bit nervous as it involved electric and gas in the same device but it ended up being pretty plug and play and the new Flame Failure Device has worked perfectly since.

This week a gas fire we have (fed from the natural gas supply not from bottled gas) has started acting up in that it will fire up but after about 2 seconds blow out including the pilot light.

The pilot light can be re-started easily enough and will stay on but as soon as the gas level is increased whilst it will light up and produce a full flame it quickly dies out so I'm thinking the Flame Failure Device on the fire must be dead and am thinking of doing a similar DIY replacement to the cooker.

Good / bad idea? Any reason a gas fire would be more complicated than a cooker? Has anyone here undertaken a similar job and do you have any tips from your own experience? It looks like a more cramped space to be working in than the cooker which just required lifting off of a top plate to expose everything but apart from that I'm hoping the job will be quite similar.
