What sort of a person wears these? Okay I now know you're a feminist, you're t-shirt has achieved its intended purpose. Kudos to you!

I actually saw one the other day that said 'Female = Future'. That's a little too much.

What kind of person wears any kind of slogan on their clothes? Unless the setting is right (eg. metal concert=band t shirt maybe) you're just gonna look stupid.

A chastity device? Because you think feminists don't like sex?

    This.

Plus, why would you pay the slightest attention to what's on someone's tshirt?

    Why do you care?
Wear whatever you want and let other people do the same.

Why would you pay the slightest bit of attention to some silly advert you don't like?

Because it's being broadcast on a TV that I happen to be watching at the time?

How is that even remotely equivalent?

Why am I even engaging in this conversation?!

Why create a thread about something that you didn't like

I have a look at the other threads in after hours. You'll find a lot of them are about things that people don't like.

That's a lot to get on a t-shirt. Should be pithier.

My wardrobe is 95% t-shirts. Of them, 90% are Qwertee. Every single one of them has a reference to a movie, tv show, game or book I like. Some of them are slogans. You may think I look stupid, but I'm wearing what I want to wear, while I smugly (internally) laugh at everyone else who sticks to societal and expected norms when it comes to fashion, ie: wearing what the people who make the most profit from the sales of the current 'in' fashion are telling you what to wear.

But, each to their own. I enjoy my relatively cheap, ethically sourced and relevant to me clothing from an Irish producer while others can wear their sweat shop made fashion designs or Penny's better ethically sourced knock-offs.

I'm the same, I'm either in a suit or qwerty.

I've a pile of Qwertee t-shirts too, work clothes for me are usually one of them, cardi, skinny jeans and Converse or Vans.

But you are a feminist. Because by definition, a feminist is any person that believes in equality. So why don't you wear a feminist t-shirt.

But if you're a feminist that feels the need to let the world know that you're a feminist, then you probably are a feminazi!

Those t-shirts are good to help you avoid people like that.

Because I prefer French cuff shirts.

As somebody else already pointed out, these t-shirts allow for these people to be easily identified and thus avoided.

When on tinder or bumble AT ALL COSTS AVOID ANY ONE WHO HAS ACTIVIST ON THEIR PROFILE

They're going to be HARD WORK and any man or woman who's not an activist and ends up with one of these critens run run run....

I don't think you look stupid. I just think you're sticking to a societal and expected norm for the kind of person you are. I wouldn't laugh at you, and you shouldn't laugh at others just because you think you're better than them.

This is true. They actually provide a valuable service in that regard.

I'm of the opinion that life is sadly dog eat dog, life is a rat race and that the world can be messed up. Doesn't matter if you are a man, woman, straight, gay, black, white whatever.

So a woman can call herself a feminist and attend "protests / rallys" all she wants. Same goes for trans and same goes for gays. Aint gonna change sh*t.

Ah yes the debate of why do people wear t shirts..... Real valuable that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,281 ✭✭✭CrankyHaus

Making a statement with your T-shirt isn't that different from walking around with a sandwich board stating "The end is nigh" or whatever. At best it's a little juvenile to assume random people care what you think.

I was at the Dalkey Book Festival a few years back and there was a fat guy walking around in a T-Shirt that said "Don't burn fossil fuels, burn the rich to stay warm". How cringey is that at one of the most Bourgeois gatherings in one of the poshest places in Ireland?

when i was a teenager being gay was illegal. Now we can get married. Activism does work.

Fashion like any capitalist product will always exploit and jump on trends.

Annoyingly, it means that those who are genuine get tarnished by the same brush due to bandwagon jumpers.

Completely agree with the whole post except the last line. Things change and lobby groups can and do influence how things change. If you think the civil rights movements in NI or America ‘didn’t change sh1t’, then you’re wrong.
