It seems that 98FM has done it AGAIN and canned their morning show with Cooper and Luke. It must be their 4th show in 8 years?

Luke just tweeted the news saying 'Sorry I didn't get to say goodbye'

Never nice to hear news like this. Best of luck to them.

Oh I thought I had the wrong channel on this morning when they weren't on - then I figured they were off. What a shame!

Listeners across Dublin were shocked to discover today that 98FM's Big Breakfast hosts Steven Cooper and Luke O’Faolain have left the station.

The pair, who have been on Dublin's airwaves since 2016, hosted their last show on Friday.

A spokeswoman for 98FM confirmed that a new line-up is expected to be announced for the show shortly.

Ah that really sucks. As a long time "traffic updater", I will 100% miss the show. My mornings are a litter greyer now that its over!

They were obviously shown the door, which suggests the show was tanking in the JNLRs.

That nobody seems to actually care shows what's happened to 98. A lost irrelevance in the market

who will be next I wonder ??

Since they messed around with Ray and JP, and let Dermot & Dave go - I've tuned in very little to it anymore.

I turned over to 98 as was sick of fm104 and it's repetitive music and content.

Actually miss ray and JP to be honest.

They were great on today FM at night and Chris and Kiera were good at night on rte 2fm.

Any ideas who will be taking over the slot.

Noticed they weren't on this week and just assumed they were off. Disappointing as I enjoyed them on the way into work in the mornings

Any good tips, driving a bus gets very boring but I like to mix it up from Spotify to radio. Like good tunes.

Ruthless business, I hope the lads find gigs, I think Denis needs to give back the licence, 104, Spin, Q, Sunshine all better in Dublin

Off to New York to pursue his music career.

Gonna miss cooper and luke, both where excellent, luke said his goodbye on Instagram, cooper hasnt.

The way they were let go would show that this was preplanned but without people to fill in. 98 will be losing listeners now

RTE Gold is decent in the morning or ALL80s.ie for me most days.

98FM is putting Rebecca Shekleton and Brendan O’Loughlin its Big Breakfast from March 16th.

They replace Cooper and Luke who left last week.

Best pals Rebecca and Brendan are two of the creators and hosts of superfan podcast, Shrine of Duty, an homage to the UK Drama Series, Line of Duty.

The pair appeared on national television last year, to meet ‘Line of Duty’ star Adrian Dunbar who congratulated them on the success of their podcast.

Sharing their excitement, Rebecca and Brendan said: “This is a dream job for both of us. We get to work together every day and do we what we love: talking and listening! We have lots of exciting plans for 98FM’s Big Breakfast and we’re looking forward to waking up Dublin and joining them in their morning routine”.

From Dundrum originally, Rebecca fed her passion for all things showbiz and pop culture as entertainment reporter for 98FM, interviewing Hollywood stars on the red-carpet including Ben Affleck, Rebel Wilson and Seth Rogan. Rebecca’s popularity with Dublin audiences led to her own weekend magazine show ‘Saturday Social’ on 98FM.

Brendan, who has been part of the station for over 10 years, will be a familiar voice to 98FM fans, having anchored news bulletins across the day, keeping listeners up to date on all the latest happenings in Dublin.

Brendan also recently picked up a much-coveted Gold IMRO award for ‘News Broadcaster of the Year’ judged by his peers.

Commenting on the new Breakfast line-up, Michael Brett, 98FM Content Director said: “I’m delighted to welcome Rebecca and Brendan to 98FM’s Big Breakfast. No strangers to 98FM listeners, they’re both hugely passionate about what they do and I’m looking forward to the energy and entertainment they’ll bring to morning radio in Dublin”.

We have the radio on 98fm in the office. The new duo are absolutely atrocious!! They literally have so little content that they drone on about what they've bought online recently. A week or two ago it was the male waiting for a Dyson, this morning we were informed that the female has ordered a fire pit.

They are seriously annoying too. Cannot see them lasting.

Due to Covid and all that, I haven't been commuting so I didn't actually notice they had gone off the air!

Big shame. They were good. I now won't have any reason to tune in to 98fm.

I wonder if M50 Mariusz is ok

They’re meant to be best friends but don’t sound like it. Wonder if it’s because one of the presenters was 98FM’s newsreader for years so he’s not used to presenting?

I feel like their content should be better though seeing as their producer has worked in the business for years. She was Ryan and Tracey on Spin’s producer years ago, if I remember correctly.

I used to listen to the Strawberry Alarm Clock years ago, then switched to 98fm for Cooper and Luke.
Now they're gone (and their replacement are awful), I've switched back to the Strawberry.
I forgot how fantastic they are.

SPIN is knocking them all out of the water at the moment it seems. The Matt Damon interview was a huge get for them.

Agree with you 100%. Some other stations have presenters who sound a bit lazy right now.

98FM seem to be filling time with competitions. Cooper and Luke used to do the same, I think?
