Right, looks like my search for a defender is doomed.
Impossible to find a good one so I’ve decided to change tact.

I’m going to go for a Landcruiser. Have it narrowed down to a few and going to view a 06 one tomorrow. Full history and a recent test, 280,000 klm’s On the clock. I’m aware this era having injector problems so I’m going to budget for this. Two questions:

    How much should I budget?
Anyone know a good independent mechanic in the Wicklow/South Dublin/North Wexford area who would be familiar with these.

P.S. don’t tell the wife. For some strange reason she thinks the 3 cars I have at the moment is enough :D

Wonder what importing one from UAD or Dubai would look like.

Some tasty ones on auctions everyday many with minimal body damage

    Exhibit A

Between strong sterling, vrt and nox tax UK imports are getting very expensive.

Just spotted the jeep in your link is also left hand drive and has two bullet holes in the dash as well.

    It's in Dubai.... Obviously.

And bulleted holes meaning two missing switches. Easily filled with switch blanks.

Just interesting what sort of money these could come in at. Left hand drive.... Sure does it matter if it's being worked around farm or whatever

Do the maths, cost of jeep plus vat, cost of sterling, cost to bring it to Ireland, VRT, NOX tax, extra insurance costs because it's an outside EU import plus it's a left hand drive.

I'd assume the OP is talking about the smaller Land Cruiser (J120 Prado) and a diesel, which that is neither.

As has been said, NOx tax is a killer for importing old diesels.

Rang Ray today and got some good advice.
Landcruiser purchased and was able to factor in the cost of getting the injectors done. Will be booking it in Monday.
Thanks for the suggestion Mintoe, much appreciated.

You shouldn't have much bother with it. The aluminum injector seal issue was limited enough and it developed an unfair reputation as a result. Best of luck with cruiser ownership.. it's a delight because they don't really break.

Cheers. Going to get them done anyway. Takes the guesswork out of it I suppose.
Got a great deal on it so I’ll be looking after it.
