Advice needed for cleaning the bathroom tiles

    Hi,
In my bathroom there is a bathtub and the side walls are tiled.

I see some stains where the tiles meet. What are they? Is that mould?
I tried using Dettol mould remover, Cif and bang sprays which could not get rid of it fully.

    Then I came across the
UniBond Triple Protect Anti Mould White Kitchen & Bathroom Sealant in B&Q store.

Can I buy one and apply that myself? or should I take expert help? Could this have caused any invisible damage?

Once in a while I see mould on the walls which goes away after the Dettol mould remover.
But this one is on the tiles. Attaching some pictures which might give you better idea.

    Thanks

I am far from being an expert on tiles, but I would suspect that the walls behind the tiles are wet. Is the tiled wall on plasterboard or solid? Tiles on second pic look dodgy to me.

Don't put sealant on top of previous grout/sealant. Its not a replacement for grout anyway, though you might use it in a corner. But the gap needs to be clean and dry.

As to why your question was not answered, it just slipped through the net. Its only 48 hours since you posted and by chance no people who know about tiles/bathrooms were on or felt inclined to answer questions. It happens. You may get some answers this time.

The tiles and grouting over our bath/ shower can get pretty stained over time but I've managed to get them spotless and back to white using a solution of diluted bleach applied to the area with a spray bottle. I then use a car wheel cleaning brush (soft enough bristles to work it in, allow to sit for a while, then after a time rinse scrub and rinse off using the same brush. Works every time, just requires a bit of elbow grease (not that strenuous though, considering the end results) and it's cheap as chips.

You can try cillet bang black mould remover. Local supermarket should have it. VERY strong stuff, did an amazing job on my bathroom but that was just mould on the grout.

The best solution for this is bleach. Fill a spray bottle with strong bleach and spray the tiles and grout completely, scrubbing the bleach into the grout lines with a stiff brush.

Leave it for a few hours, preferably overnight and them just spray it all off with a shower head. You will actually see a layer of grout washing down the tiles and your tiles and grout will sparkle afterwards.

The smell of bleach can be quite strong and eye watering so I would suggest wearing a face mask and leaving a window open

    Thanks everyone.

Also, the wall behind the tiles are not plaster walls. They seem to be solid one. So, this black thing, is that mold?
If so would there be any damage to the walls? Because on closer observation there is a line of white sealant between the tiles which I believe is there to prevent the water seeping in.

    It's all mould.

I've seen many bathrooms in that condition and it's just caused by steam and water getting into the grout lines and never been dried.

The grout is very porous so removing the mould it is going to mean removing a layer of grout and bleach will do that.

I had a similar problem in the past and what I done was got a cheap bottle of bleach from Aldi and rubbed it into the grouting using a soft cloth, lightly rinsed out the cloth and then wiped the actual tiles to clean them down. I then got an old toothbrush and dipped it in the bleach (neat) the odd time and scrubbed the grouting with it and it all came out like new.

When using the likes of bleach make sure you keep the room well ventilated, use googles, face mask and protective or old clothing. Scrubbing with the likes of a toothbrush will always result in sparks or splashes flying round the place. On the off chance that you have carpet in the bathroom just ensure its protected from the bleach.

That Cillit Bang stuff is just bleach in a spray bottle.

And by the way it's mould not mold unless you live in the US.

    Thanks everyone.
I bought the cillit spray and using it.
I can see some difference in these 3 days. But still it is not completely clean.

I presume, I need to keep spraying it few more days since it was not cleaned for a while.
